Job Description : As our Building Maintenance Intern, you will be cleaning and maintaining fixed equipment and facilities at a mine operation and camp site to keep our production going and our profitability up. Every day you will work at a mine on a remote island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. You’ll start every job with safety first by inspecting your workplace and your equipment needed. To thrive in this role, you should be efficient and thorough when it comes to building maintenance and cleaning. We’re on a remote island, you must know how to work independently.

The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing approximately 450 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Winner of numerous safety and environmental awards, Greens Creek is seeking new team members committed to professional growth and success.
Here’s what you can expect in this role:
Training first. Every hire is provided MSHA training in the first 4 days on the job. We also provide department-level training on not just what to do, but safety, as well.
Working on a remote island and living in a mining camp environment away from home if you are not Juneau based. Our interns will be on site Monday through Saturday, with Sundays off.
You’ll need to be flexible, as you will work on many various cleaning and maintenance projects both at the mine site, and employee housing facilities.
You’ll pass a background screening for ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms).
You’ll pass a pre-employment hair follicle drug screen.
You will be paid and eligible for medical, dental, and vision coverages as well as a 401(k) with company match.
Safety is important. Every piece of equipment and each work area must be inspected before we start the day for your safety and the safety of your team.
