Position Information
Provides professional counseling services and assistance to victims and/or witnesses of violent crimes; acts as their advocate within the criminal justice system, and supports and prepares them for the rigors of court proceedings; and performs other related duties as required.

There currently is one (1) temporary vacancy with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, Victim/Witness Division. The current position is full-time temporary (limited-term), with continued funding anticipated. This list may be used to fill future permanent or temporary (limited-term) vacancies in the department.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major work in social work, sociology, counseling, psychology or a related field.

Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor’s degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
One year of professional (i.e., post-bachelor’s degree, non-clerical) counseling experience in a program which provided social services, to include crisis counseling.

Such experience must have shown demonstrated knowledge of crisis intervention, counseling and psycho-therapeutic techniques; interviewing methods and techniques; governmental agencies and community organizations that provide pertinent social services, benefits and other human resource assistance; and report writing. Additionally, such experience must have demonstrated the ability to assess the biopsychosocial needs of victims/witnesses of violent crimes; and utilize a wide variety of interviewing techniques, particularly as to crisis counseling.

License Requirement:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver’s license (automobile), prior to appointment, as required.
