What is the Associate Data Protection Officer for?
As Associate Data Protection Officer, you’ll focus on data privacy and protection laws and regulations in the Asia, Pacific (APAC) region alongside Franklin Templeton’s existing global privacy program. You understand that data privacy is a fascinating and continuously shifting subject requiring constant vigilance and an ability to adapt and move quickly. Because the legal and compliance requirements continue to evolve, you understand the business needs your knowledge, partnership, and guidance on how they can adopt new privacy requirements and reduce privacy and regulatory risks while continuing to meet their financial and service goals.

You’ll work under the direction of the Data Protection Officer Lead (DPO) and Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) to support Franklin Templeton’s global privacy program, including the following tasks:
Respond to business inquiries and provide general operational support for the privacy program
Review business projects and advise the business of necessary actions to comply with Franklin Templeton’s global privacy program and any regional laws, regulations or requirements under the guidance of the DPO or CPO
Help the business maintain their records of processing activities (ROPAs), Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and other privacy-related policies or procedures
Create data privacy training content and deliver it to staff, including senior management
Write data privacy policies and procedures
Identify and escalate privacy risks to the RDPO, CPO and senior management
Complete project work necessary for implementation of new privacy laws (for example, updating privacy notices and forms, coordinating business resources, etc.)
Maintain an awareness of changes in the legal and regulatory spaces for data privacy and protection for the APAC region
Grow and maintain personal data privacy and protection knowledge to ensure working comfort with ongoing legal, regulatory and industry changes
What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?
Work experience in the financial services industry is preferred
Preferred a basic knowledge or willingness to learn/understand the APAC data privacy laws and proposed legislation for Australia, China, India, Singapore, Korea, Japan and Malaysia, and Europe’s GDPR, and privacy best practices
Ability to influence senior leaders and provide advice to management
Maintain high ethical standards and discretion when handling sensitive or proprietary information
Basic knowledge of the functioning of operational processes, compliance programs, project management, marketing ecosystems, information technologies, data security, data governance or data management practices is a plus
Ability to craft well-organized and succinct advice that effectively translate legal and regulatory requirements into simple, user-friendly materials
Successfully create and meet deadlines, keep competing priorities organized and aligned to team goals, and manage time and energy effectively
A strong ability to identify and escalate roadblocks quickly and an appreciation for the advice and mentorship of more experienced team members and colleagues
A continuous learner, willing to constantly expand data privacy and protection knowledge and skills
Excellent communication skills in English; other languages such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean or …. are desirable but not required
Demonstrated success in working in a remote environment with global team members
Willingness to obtain a CIPP/A
Shift Work Timings – 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM IST
