Position : Curatorial Assistant

Job Description : Provides support to the curatorial services team in exhibition planning and implementation and care for the permanent collection. Supports the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation in planning and management of special exhibitions at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and Jamestown Settlement Museum; conducts research and coordinates domestic and international artifact loans; assists with care of the permanent collections; and provides other support to curatorial services as assigned.

This is a part-time wage position and is limited to 1,500 hours of work in the twelve month period beginning May 1, through April 30. No state benefits are provided.

Minimum Qualifications
Familiarity with and ability to apply best museum practices for artifact collections management, documentation and artifact preservation; organizing, documenting, scheduling, and managing multiple tasks related to national and international artifact loans including coordinating secure transit with art handlers and couriers.
Ability to handle artifacts using best practices; safely climb ladders or steps; assist with movement of artifacts and crates and lift and move artifacts independently when appropriate; experience preferred in artifact collections management, working hands-on with artifact collections in a museum setting including handling, storing, packing and moving them.
Knowledge of 17th and 18th-century material culture to include ability to identify and generally describe artifact forms.
Excellent organizational and administrative skills required to collect and organize information, plan and execute projects, and document activities.
Ability to work effectively and respectfully with people of diverse cultures, ages, and economic backgrounds.
Effectively represent the agency with other museums and lending institutions; excellent interpersonal skills required.
Ability to conduct assigned research, analyze information for relevance, and clearly and effectively write copy and correspondence.

Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Knowledge and experience working with collections management databases required.

Requires Valid U.S. driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Arts degree in History, Museum Studies, American Studies or related field preferred.
