Working at Milton Hershey School (MHS) is much more than a job. MHS is currently seeking a full-time Grounds keeper I to primarily maintain the campus grounds, lawns, planting beds, shrubs, trees, and perform other duties as assigned. The successful candidate is required to demonstrate journeyman level knowledge by achieving a score of at least 70% on a professional examination and demonstrate the skills set through successful completion of a practical exercise. Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:
Maintenance of campus lawn, including mowing, leaf removal, and storm damage, trimming trees and shrubs, watering, fertilizing, weeding, seeding, aerating, etc.
Pruning, trimming and general tree and shrub care.
Perform snow and ice removal, including plowing, shoveling, loading, anti-skid spreading.
Prepare planting beds for annuals, perennials and bulbs.
Apply herbicides, fungicides, dormant oils and insecticides to campus plantings as directed by a licensed applicator.
Perform daily equipment maintenance in accordance with operational manual.
Work schedule: Monday – Friday: 7:00 am- 3:30 pm. The full-time schedule consists of 40 hours per week with a minimum of two (2) days off. * Standard hours of operation may change due to seasonal, and department needs. Bargaining union Local 464 position with an hourly rate of $22.24. Our full-time employees receive generous health and insurance benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, etc.)
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of three years’ experience working in the ground’s maintenance field.
Knowledge of large mowers, tractors, snowplows equipment, etc.
Valid PA Driver’s License in good standing (CDL Preferred, Class B).
Training with pesticides, herbicides, and other chemicals.
Candidate should be willing to actively engage with students.
Candidate should demonstrate a high degree of integrity, as all MHS staff are considered to be role models to MHS students.
