The New York Times is looking for an ambitious and creative editor to join its Instagram team as a Weekend Editor. The ideal candidate should embrace the journalistic mission of The Times and possess a strong sense of story and keen editorial judgment as well as a good grasp of photojournalism, video journalism, graphics and art direction. Candidates should also have considerable experience with Instagram and passion for the possibilities of the Times visual storytelling on the platform.
This position will help shape the weekend editorial calendar and execution, including visual editing and writing, for the @nytimes account with 13 million followers. The job requires coordination with journalists across the newsroom to shape the way The New York Times tells breaking news and enterprise stories on Instagram.
The best candidate should be a great communicator who thoroughly understands the platform and can leverage all of its tools to grow our overall presence there. This person must be a team player and must initiate and develop ideas for visual stories. Candidates should be comfortable with change and be able to work well in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. Excellent news judgment, strong writing skills, and a firm sense of journalistic ethics are essential. Evening and weekend work will be required in this role.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with a team of 5-10 visual editors, social editors and writers to execute multiple posts and IG stories each day and handle comment moderation and audience engagement.
Act as the main point of contact for the newsroom as they contribute to the platform.
Help schedule and manage a structured and sustainable plan for @nytimes posts.
Keep track of major visual projects across the newsroom.
Collaborate and plan with desks for daily coverage and major visual projects.
Keep detailed data on our Instagram performance, looking for ways to optimize NYT efforts.
Execute on a variety of visual storytelling projects; execute detailed plans for how major enterprise stories will appear.
Help refine and/or develop image-driven UGC ideas, collaborating with social editors and desks across the newsroom on UGC projects involving photography and video.
This is a full time position. 4 days a week / 35 hours a week
