Job Description : JOB DESCRIPTIONKnik Tribal CouncilJob Title: Maintenance Technician I Supervisor: Project SupervisorFSLA Status: Non-Exempt, Regular Full Time Employment Period: Full timeLocation: KTC Office, Wasilla, Alaska Salary/Wage Range: $18.00 – $25.00JOB SUMMARY: The Maintenance Technician I will serve as maintenance staff for the KTC Housing Program including our Low-Income Housing Program, other KTC Property, and the Housing Department. This position will assist to maintain, improve, repair and manage the various properties and client housing needs for the KTC Housing Program. Tasks for Housing Services will include repair and maintenance, contractor support, client home visits, deliveries, and numerous other duties as assigned. Positive customer service skills are essential, dependability, self-motivated, and punctual as well as adherence to policies and procedures, are important for success in this position.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Serve as maintenance staff support for the KTC Housing Program.Provide skilled and semi-skilled maintenance repair and remodel work for housing projects.Assist to make repairs on the journeyman level for KTC Properties.Assist to make competent estimates of labor, time, cost and materials for projects.Assist with delivery assistance to clients for various housing programs and services, including wood deliveries, snow plowing, or other need.Help to purchase and manage supplies and materials as needed for projects.Provide positive communication with clients, venders, staff, and others.Attend related trainings, meetings, and/or events to improve services.Maintain orderly work space area.Manage routine maintenance, work order, vendor, and client files as needed.Provide administrative/staff support for daily housing functions and activities.Assist to provide report of activities periodically to Housing Director.Perform other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma/GED preferred; or commensurate skills, knowledge and abilities.Valid drivers’ license issued by State of Alaska.Ability to be insured under KTC vehicle insurance policy.Knowledge and experience in carpentry and minor home repair.Experience working in the carpentry or home repair field preferred.Experience in carpentry, roofing, painting, or drywall preferred.Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment employed in the building, electrical, plumbing, painting, masonry, and mechanical trades.Ability to work with a diverse population with emphasis on customer service skills.COMPETENCIES: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position.Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repair.Knowledge of the KTC Service Area.Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.Demonstrated ability with internal and external customer service.Prefer ability to lift 70 pounds with appropriate assistance.Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule.Ability to maintain confidentiality of clients.Prefer ability to use computers and Microsoft Office applications.WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work location is at KTC Office at 1831W. Nicola Ave Unit A, Palmer, Alaska. Work schedule is eight hours per day, forty hours per week, with normal schedule from 8 AM to 5 PM daily, Monday through Friday. Employee required to take a one hour lunch between 8 AM and 5 PM and may take a total of twenty minutes of break time during the day. Employee expected to be out in field frequently doing Maintenance work.
