Due to expanded production, Northern Star (Pogo) LLC have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Plant Metallurgist at our world-class Pogo operation in Alaska on a rotational camp schedule.

What’s the role?
The Plant Metallurgist reports to the Metallurgy Superintendent, and the primary role is to provide technical advice, information and solutions to improve the fundamentals of the processing plant and to implement project work and systems to deliver safety and operational improvement within the Processing department.
Duties include:
Provide metallurgical and processing operations advice
Maintains the metallurgical accounting system, and generates daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly balances as required, in accordance to the company Metal Accounting Standard.
Monitor plant performance analyse operational/assay data and set up systems that provide performance trends that can be used to identify areas and opportunities to improve plant performance
Optimising processing plant comprises of crushing-grinding circuit, flotation circuit, roaster circuit, gravity circuit (Knelson and Acacia), CIL circuit and elution.
Conducts plant investigations and improvement projects to improve recovery, increase throughput and reduce cost as required
Optimise, maintain and upgrade the plant control systems as required.
Seeks improvement opportunities with the key reagent and consumable suppliers
What are we looking for?

The specifics:
Degree majoring in Metallurgical Engineering / Extractive Metallurgy / Chemical Engineering from a recognised tertiary institution.
Current Driver’s License.
Minimum 3 years relevant experience in the metallurgical processing plant in the gold or base metal industry.
Relevant experience and exposure to comminution and flotation circuit will be highly regarded.
Proven track record of process improvement and/or cost savings project implementation will be highly regarded.
Demonstrated ability to maintain or exceed best industry practice in all metallurgical tasks.
Computer literacy Microsoft Office, Pronto, INX
Good communication skills.
Must have good comprehension of safe operating procedures, safety rules, policies, emergency procedures, and MSHA requirements.
Must pass a post offer physical and drug test, as well as a background check.
A Covid Vaccine is required for all new hires as of July 12, 2021
Either one round of Pfizer or Moderna, or the J&J COVID-19 Vaccine are required for site entry to all of Northern Star’s US Workplaces.

The Details:
Working a 15 days on, 13 days off schedule of days and nights, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
