Processes incoming and outgoing mail for detentions facilities. Inspects all incoming and outgoing inmate mail for contraband. Processes legal mail. Delivers mail to inmates in detentions facility; distributes intra-departmental mail to County buildings.
Identifies housing unit on inmate mail, inspects inmate mail for contraband, delivers inmate mail to the appropriate housing unit, and delivers intra-departmental mail to County buildings.
Records all inmate funds and property received through the mail. Determines postage and handling requirements for outgoing inmate mail and maintains mail log for inmates.
Records all legal mail received into the JMS system.
Responds to inmate kiosk requests and issues appropriate inmate literature.
Records all rejected mail and literature into the JMS system.
Responds to telephone inquiries concerning inmate mail and answers questions regarding policy involving mail.
Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent education required.
Minimum one year office/mailroom experience preferred.
Must be honest, truthful, trustworthy, and possess a high degree of personal integrity.
Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computer, telephone, postage machine, scanner, and copier.
Ability to type 40 words per minute (WPM) and enter data accurately.
Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, truth verification examination, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination.
Licenses/Certificates
Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License.
Work Conditions
Work is performed in a highly stressful, closed office environment with minimal exposure to windows and requires lifting, reaching, bending, walking, and climbing. Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 40 lbs. Exposure to potentially violent inmates. Exposure to inclement weather conditions while operating vehicle.
