Position : Specialist – Student Conduct, Intervention, and Response

Job Description : General Description
Provides support, interpretation and enforcement related to student discipline policy for school administrators, school staff, students and parents. Assists in training of staff regarding discipline policies and procedures. Serves as a hearing officer for the Superintendent.
Essential Job Functions
Reviews practices, policies and decisions.
Conducts interviews and hearings for students on ten day out-of-school suspensions referred to this office.
Conducts interviews and hearings for recommendations for long-term suspensions and expulsion; presents parent appeals to the Superintendent and School Board.
Conducts on-going training in the area of student conduct (policy, process, and procedures) to administrators, staff and other school personnel.
Provides consultation on due process and policy to school staff, including alternative programs.
Reviews disciplinary processes with parents, students and staff as needed.
Reviews practices, policies and decisions at the request of schools.
Reviews documentation presented and meets with students and parents requesting readmission to Chesterfield County Public Schools.
Prepares readmission requests for review by the Superintendent and School Board.
Participates in annual review of the Standards for Student Conduct.
Provides consultation to other school Departments.
Provides guidance to school staff regarding disciplinary processes and procedures as related to Exceptional Education.
Provides support to schools through on site visits.
Assists in maintaining student records as related to Student Discipline.
Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of the principles, concepts and methodologies relative to the development and implementation of disciplinary programs. Considerable knowledge of related statutes, regulations and policy governing school discipline, due process, special education and student grievance procedures. Considerable knowledge of program evaluation techniques. Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive and difficult situations and information; of interpersonal problem-solving, decision-making and leadership skills; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and to manage and work with a team to accomplish mission and goals.
Requirements
Advanced degree in education, counseling, or related degree and background in educational setting, with knowledge of safe schools and student disciplinary programs preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. Must hold a valid Virginia Driver’s license. This position requires regular travel between school facilities. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.
