Position : Student Advisor – EOF

Job Description : POSITION GOALS

To provide information, support and academic advisement to prospective and current Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) students, fostering their retention through graduation and their achievement of other vocational and educational goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Advises prospective and current EOF participants and other students on academic and career development matter, through individual meetings, orientations, workshops, small group sessions, and seminars.
2. Monitors students’ academic progress using prescribed program procedures, use of NJFAMS database to check necessary documents needed for awarding students, recommending necessary services to remedy academic deficiencies; implementing intrusive counseling strategies aimed at retaining students; facilitating graduation; and enabling transfer.
3. Collects necessary data, assists in report preparation, and maintains required documentation, all in a timely manner and in accordance with EOF program regulations.
4. Provides general information about the college experience, and college programs, policies and procedures.
5. Serves as a liaison between the College’s Financial Aid Office and the EOF program, assisting in the collection of necessary documentation to foster the timely awarding of financial aid to eligible program participants.
6. Makes appropriate referrals to outside agencies for resolution of student personal concerns.
7. Facilitates communication between students, faculty and other College staff in resolving participant issues.
8. Provides evening academic advisement support when applicable and support for College registration events.
9. Conducts orientations, workshops, small group sessions, and seminars, including career exploration workshops, and other career related services.
10. Participates in various retention initiatives.
11. Supports the implementation of a plan to recruit, identify and select potential EOF students, including visits to local high schools and community organizations to promote the EOF program and the College.
12. Comply with all safety, fire, and smoking regulations.
13. Complete all mandatory compliance and safety training as scheduled by Human Resources.
14. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. Higher education experience required.
3. Familiarity with the goals of the EOF Program.
4. Ability to work as a part of a cross‑functional team in an innovative environment.
5. Willingness to continually learn, change, and innovate as College policies and/or customer demands require.
6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
7. Good communication skills.
8. Excellent customer service skills.
9. Computer literacy.
