Job Description : Job Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for providing prompt and efficient claims service.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY

Handle those claims that meet the “Telephone Claims” criteria from start to finish, including most non-disputed claims with a loss value of $2500 or less.

Investigate, evaluate, and settle claims, applying technical knowledge and human relations skills to effect fair and prompt disposal of cases and to contribute to a reduced loss ratio.

Make proper assignment of claims to appropriate Claims Representative, Telephone Claims Representative, or other Claims personnel, in and out of the territory.

Open, review, and recommend proper reserves on all claim files assigned, and ascertain the proper amount of damages on all assigned claims in a prompt and efficient manner.

Submit reports to the District Claims Manager on each claim assigned in accordance with Claims department procedures.

Recognize the need for outside investigators or experts and report it to the appropriate manager or supervisor.

Complete and submit Claims reports to Underwriting and any pertinent information to other Company departments, when necessary.

Refer claims for subrogation, as appropriate.

Complete loss notices on the Electronic Loss Notice system for claims called into the office, when necessary.

Care for and maintain all assigned company equipment, including computer, calculator, vehicle, or telephone.

Maintain current and accurate knowledge regarding trends in claims handling and innovative settlement techniques, such as structured settlements.

Confirm status of policy and coverage.

Investigate and report accidental death claims, property protection claims, and payment to fire departments within established procedures.

Pay and process claims within designated authority level.

Adjust reserves or provide reserve recommendations to ensure that reserve activities are consistent with Company policies.

Investigate and submit coverage questions and Agents’ error and omission claims.

Enter claim payments, reserves, and new claims into computer system, using concise yet sufficient file documentation.

Immediately advise the District Claims Manager of lawsuits and time demands, and forward suit papers, as per guidelines.

Assist in other areas as needed due to storms, vacations, and overloads.

Verify and analyze data used in settling claims to ensure that claims are valid and that settlements are made according to Company and departmental practices and procedures.

Contact or interview claimants, doctors, medical specialists, or employees to get additional information regarding claims.

Comply with the Certified Fleet Operator requirements of the Company Driving and Safety Policy.

Other duties may be assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Four-year degree from an accredited college or university.

Acceptable credit rating.

All Lines Adjuster license from the Texas Department of Insurance, maintained according to the licensing requirements set forth by the state of Texas. Completion of the Associate in Claims program.

Ability to satisfactorily perform all Telephone Claims and Small Claims Representative responsibilities and duties.

Basic knowledge of computer applications including the following: 1) The company’s e-mail system 2) The company’s imaging and document handling system 3) The company Intranet 4) The electronic claims system Effective interpersonal verbal skills, both face-to-face and over the phone.

Ability to plan, organize, and complete detailed work independently or in a team environment.

Valid Texas driver’s license and driving record at the time of hire which would not place the employee on probation, or disqualify the employee from Certified Fleet Operator Status under the company Driving and Safety Policy.

Extended periods of sitting and concentrating.

Regular bending, twisting, crouching, pulling, pushing, reaching, and lifting objects weighing up to 30 lbs in an office or field environment.
