DYS is the juvenile corrections system for the state of Ohio. DYS is statutorily mandated to confine felony offenders, ages 10-21, who have been adjudicated and committed by one of Ohio’s 88 county juvenile courts. During their stay with DYS, youth are engaged in programming that is designed to address their criminological and behavioral needs. DYS reaches thousands of youth in facilities and those on parole.

The Job Opportunity and Duties…
The Department of Youth Services provides stability, support, safety, and security for all employees of DYS. The Administrative Professional 1 will provide valuable experience and knowledge to the Department of Youth Services workforce.

DYS is seeking an Administrative Professional 1 to support Parole unit functions. The ideal candidate will be a team player with a solid background in office practice & procedures.

Specifically, the Administrative Professional 1 will:

Provide administrative support functions to Southern Region of Parole
Maintain phones, front desk, & greet visitors
Process & prepare incoming & outgoing mail
Respond to inquiries proficient & accurately
Maintain operations between DYS facilities (files, reports, records, inventory)
Maintain office inventory
Skilled in Excel & Microsoft Word
Exhibit strong organization skills
Maintain files, calendars, mail, reports, & records for parole
Communicate, apply & relay DYS policies & procedures
Establish & maintain working relationship with external agencies & support services
Attends meetings, trainings, conferences, and workshops as needed
Collaborate & provide assistance to division leadership
Possess a strong work ethic & dependability

Qualifications

1 yr. trg. or 1 yr. exp. in secretarial science or business office applications.

For positions requiring technical terminology, applicants must also have 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in relevant technical terminology.

Knowledge of English grammar & composition; arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division; records management; business communications; administrative practices & procedures*; general office practices & procedures; agency-specific office practices & procedures*. Skill in keyboarding; business office software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office); operation of personal computer & office machines (e.g., transcribing equipment, calculators). Ability to deal with problems involving several variables within familiar context; apply principles to solve practical, everyday problems; interpret instructions in written or oral form; write routine business letters following standard procedures; complete routine forms or records; make appointments; arrange items in numerical or alphabetical order; move fingers easily to perform manual functions; assess questions & provide appropriate information or referral.

Background Check Information
