The Juvenile Intensive Supervision Program (JISP) is a program designed to motivate juveniles adjudicated delinquent by the Family Court to comply with laws, develop and maintain respect for family and community values, and to discover and actualize their individual abilities. Essential to achieving this mission is the development of an effective partnership among the judiciary, families, schools, and communities that can foster opportunities for empowerment and lead to desired outcomes while preserving public safety.
The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking an organized, detailed-oriented individual with field supervision and administrative experience who enjoys working with youth to join the Office of Probation Services, Juvenile Intensive Supervision Program (JISP) in the Southern Regional Office (Cherry Hill, NJ). Under the general supervision of the Court Services Supervisor 4 or other supervisory personnel, the selected individual will primarily be responsible for field supervision coverage of juveniles in the community.
Court Services Officers work a 40 hour work week and an alternate schedule which include
nights and weekends.
Although this position is located in the ISP Southern Regional Offices (Cherry Hill, NJ), travel to the Central Office (Trenton, NJ), and other Judiciary locations may be required.
NOTE: ISP/JISP is a statewide program. Management reserves the right to reassign employees based on operational needs.
Note: This position may qualify for up to 1 day of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings based on position. To participate in this program, you will be required to have high speed home internet access. This program does not supersede the “New Jersey First Act”, which requires newly hired Judiciary employees to establish and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey.
Effective February 1, 2022, the New Jersey Judiciary will require all state court judges and staff to provide to Human Resources either (1) proof of initial vaccination and booster against COVID-19 once eligible to receive the booster; or (2) results of weekly tests for COVID-19. This information is maintained in a secure Judiciary application that is accessible only by a limited group of Human Resources staff.
Example of Duties
Must be able to work independently to meet organizational and program goals
Maintain and update documentation of work using a computerized system, databases, electronic files and spreadsheets
Work cooperatively with other JISP staff, Family Court judges and personnel, treatment providers, and other community agencies
Must be available to participants, participants’ families, school officials, treatment, and placement facilities staff, providing updates on participant progress and obtaining information regarding their respective interactions with the participant, as the program operates seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day
Candidate must be able to handle a variety of technical and client support and supervision functions in addition to assisting program participants in attaining specific rehabilitative goals that facilitate the successful completion of the Juvenile Intensive Supervision Program
Work closely with the youth and their families to identify educational, vocational, treatment, and employment opportunities while actively monitoring participants for compliance with court orders, JISP conditions, and providing necessary referrals to programs for assistance
Duties also include writing assessments, and progress reports, providing recommendations and/or testimony for the Family Court, and other related duties as required
Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree and four years of professional experience in casework involving supervising offenders, and one or more of the following: gathering and analyzing case-related information; determining client needs; providing access to social services, therapeutic interventions, or rehabilitative assistance; and/or preparing reports of findings and recommendations.
Substitution: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional paraprofessional or professional experience on a year-for-year basis with one year of such experience being equal to 30 semester hour credits. An associate’s degree and two years of additional paraprofessional or professional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree. A master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
Supplemental Information
Driver’s License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
Special Note: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.
Residency Law: Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), also known as the “New Jersey First Act,” all persons newly hired by the Judiciary must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey.
Terms and conditions of employment will be governed by the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
Minimum Salary Note: For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.
Maximum Salary Note: Maximum Salary A is for Judiciary employees hired prior to June 3, 2014 and Maximum Salary B is for newly hired individuals or Judiciary employees hired on or after June 3, 2014.
