Reports to: Human Resources Department Manager
Location: Berthoud, CO
Type of Position: Full-time
Status: Non-exempt
Salary Range: $25.15 – $33.83 hour

GENERAL STATEMENT
This position is responsible for supporting the effective and efficient operations of Northern Water’s
Human Resources Department and may include involvement in recruitment, compensation, employee
benefit programs, and HRIS maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resources files, records, and documentation and

maintains the integrity and confidentiality of that information.

Performs periodic audits of human resources files and records to ensure that all required

documents are collected, accurate, and filed appropriately, and removed according to retention
schedule.

Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies,

hiring processes and refers more complex questions to appropriate senior level human
resources staff or management.

Understands and assists with administering benefits, which include medical, dental, vision, life,

and disability insurance, and retirement plans.

Enrolls employees on benefit and retirement websites.
Reconciles benefits bills.
Assists with creating and reviewing job descriptions and researching salary recommendations.
Assists with recruiting, posting job openings, and advertising available positions.
Assists with background and reference checks and schedules post-offer screenings.
Conducts or assists with new hire orientation on onboarding.
Assists with setting up new hires in HRIS.
Reports new hires to federal and state websites.
Prepares and files First Report of Injury reports for workplace accidents and injuries.

Human Resources Assistant

Assists with payroll processing, answers employee questions, corrects errors, and refers taxation

and other payroll questions to the Financial Services Department, as needed.

Assists with planning and execution of special events such as open enrollment, benefits fair,

employee recognitions, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education

Associate’s or bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Human Resources or related field, preferred.

Experience

Two to three years’ related experience; or equivalent combination of education and

experience.
LICENSE, CERTIFICATE AND CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Valid driver’s license.
Human Resources certification within two years of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge

Excellent understanding and demonstrated ability to use Excel.
Basic knowledge of labor legislation and data protection regulations.
Basic knowledge of ERP systems.

Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with

tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Abilities

Ability to quickly learn human resources management best practices.
Accurate data entry and analysis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time daily.
Repetitive hand movement including grasping, and fine hand coordination in using a computer

keyboard and mouse.

Lift, drag, and push files, paper, and documents weighing up to 25 pounds.
Must be able to meet the physical requirements of a post-job offer physical examination.
