The mission of the Seattle Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs (OIRA) is to improve the lives of Seattle’s immigrant and refugee families. The Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs centers racial equity and community engagement in its work and seeks candidates who are committed to these values.
The Job
One of OIRA’s focuses is providing language access and in-language support to immigrants, refugees, and English language learners. OIRA is recruiting for a Language Services Coordinator to impact the work in the following areas:
Developing, improving, and maintaining City language service systems with a goal of improving their effectiveness and increasing usage across City departments and programs
Expanding and managing the Community Translator group, so that translators are available to the City for routine and emergency business needs in a broad range of languages
Supporting the analysis of language access policy issues, providing policy recommendations, and championing language access initiatives
Job Responsibilities:

Advocating for and with immigrant and refugee communities, including English language learner populations
Promoting equity and access for communities of color across programs and systems
Building collaborative relationships and partnerships with community, City stakeholders, and local language service providers
Driving and sustaining results
To be effective in this job, you have:
Experience with translation, interpretation, transcreation and/or working with translators and interpreters to convey information and meaning in other languages and across business needs
Strong project management and organization skills, including juggling multiple priorities and time-sensitive requests
Familiarity with, or ability to quickly learn how to use, a translation management tool
Evaluated other-language outreach and communication needs, recruited and trained translators, and monitored translation support provided
Provided operational and administrative support for a program or project, from invoicing, convening meetings, developing tools and resources, creating reports, to supporting policy assessment and change
Experience designing and delivering training
Qualifications:
In addition to the qualities mentioned above, you will need to possess the below required qualifications (or a combination of experience, training or education which provides an equivalent background required to perform the job):
Four years of experience in planning and research related to language access or related fields
OR
Three years of experience in planning and research related to language access or related fields
AND
An Associate’s degree in language studies, translation, communication, or a related field
OR
Two years of experience in planning and research related to language access or related fields
AND
A bachelor’s degree in language studies, translation, communication, or a related field
