Typical Hiring Range: $69,500 – $89,000 annually

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications

The Public Information Office supports many departments and projects by communicating pertinent information to area residents and community stakeholders. This position is responsible for formulating and fulfilling the communications plan for applicable clients.
Works with assigned project manager to design and execute a plan to fulfill all communication needs. Position is subject to grant funding.

Serves as a proactive advocate to promote transparency and foster greater trust with area residents and community stakeholders.
Develops and implements communication plans and responds to incoming media inquiries related to assigned clients. Ensures the development and implementation of integrated positioning strategies to effectively convey program benefits to stakeholders and maximize brand exposure of the organization.
Creates short and long-term strategic goals for the organization and assigned projects in collaboration with senior leadership.
Organizes and prioritizes project initiatives which require marketing and communications planning to manage reputation, identify key players, and coordinate action.
Serves as the organization’s media liaison and primary contact for media inquiries related to assigned projects; develops and maintains relationships with media and local organizations to keep positive lines of communication open that will enhance delivery of the organization’s message.
Plans, organizes, executes, and advises on appropriate communication strategies and tactics, including press conferences or other events.
Prepares and distributes fact sheets, media releases, and other informational materials to alert the public and the media about programs, services, and events.
Develops talking points, remarks, speeches, and interview preparation related to the key goals and needs of assigned projects.
Creates engaging and informative presentations to various groups and stakeholders on program progress, updates, and opportunities.
Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent education required. Bachelor’s degree in communications, public administration, or a related field preferred.
Minimum five (5) years in communications, public relations, or related experience.
Experience in developing and implementing communications plans.
Must demonstrate a sound understanding of Local, County, and State government, along with legislative processes and political knowledge.
Must possess exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to foster goodwill by working collaboratively with various offices, departments, agencies, volunteers, and others.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions; ability to prioritize tasks and move between projects with minimal oversight.
Experience with computer systems basic office applications, electronic media, and social media platforms.
Ability to efficiently plan, schedule and organize; excellent time management skills.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers, clients, vendors, other agencies, and the public.
Ability to assess situations and make prudent and appropriate decisions.
Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the education and experience requirements above.
Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, and drug screen.

Licenses/Certificates

Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License.

Work Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office and/or remote environment; however, may require frequent outside work. The position will require flexibility to be available seven days a week to respond to media calls and provide staff support.
