Job Description : WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
As a Criminal Intelligence Analyst with the Alaska Criminal Intelligence Center (AKCIC), you will be responsible for handling requests for information supporting criminal investigations from local, state, and federal agencies from within Alaska, nationally, and internationally. In this position you will apply a myriad of investigative methods, advanced software systems, deep architecture databases, and other analytical methods to support felony criminal cases in Alaska.

Experience researching computerized applications to gather, compile, and analyze data, working with criminal intelligence information, compiling data to support investigations, or identifying and reporting trends based on research.
Special Note:
Successful applicants must pass an extensive background investigation, which includes criminal records checks for convictions of felony or misdemeanor crimes, as a prerequisite to employment.
Positions require the incumbent to maintain an appropriate level of federal security clearance pertinent to the established classification and need to know of intelligence, applications, information systems, and databases accessed in performing primary responsibilities. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining these clearances within 12 months of initial hire and throughout employment.
“Competencies” means a combination of interrelated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.
“Typically gained by” means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.
“Training” and “education” in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.

Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
BACKGROUND CHECK
This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.
FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the 1 or 2level, depending on the applicant’s training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at level 1, promotion to level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
