The Disease Intervention and Prevention Navigator (Health Services Consultant 2) works within the Sexual Health and Prevention Program (SHPP) in the Disease Control and Health Statistics (DCHS) Division. The mission of this division is to work within the governmental public health system and with other public health and health care partners to implement public health programs, take actions, develop policy, and conduct assessment activities to improve the health of the people of Washington.
The Disease Intervention and Prevention Navigator supports our mission by interviewing persons diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections to verify that they have been treated, facilitate testing and treatment for their partners, and referral to and evaluation for pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV (PrEP). These positions also contact medical providers to collect and verify data required for priority cases. Additionally, these positions may participate in quality assurance projects related to STD Surveillance Network grant activities.
This recruitment will be used to fill two home-based (remote) positions. Out-of-state residents may be considered.

Duties Include
Conduct surveillance and partner services investigations of priority cases of sexually transmitted infections.
Interview persons affected by sexually transmitted infections and others as necessary and document all required information in surveillance system, including symptoms and treatment status.
Ascertain contact information for sex partners of persons affected by sexually transmitted infections or others who may be at risk.
Contact and notify exposed partners and contacts of risk and refer for or provide appropriate testing and treatment.
Contact medical providers to verify treatment and collect additional medical information for priority cases. Document correctly in surveillance system.
Identify high-priority candidates for PrEP and refer for evaluation as defined by program leadership.
Provide PrEP navigation services to selected clients to support PrEP evaluation and initiation. Document PrEP navigation work in the appropriate data system.
Collaborate with DOH-funded HIV community services providers, where available, to support linkage of high priority candidates for additional testing and PrEP navigation services.
Participate in outbreak response deployments with SHPP field services team or LHJ team members.
Participate in quality assurance projects for STD Surveillance Network grant activities.

Required Qualifications
Option 1: Two (2) years of experience providing public health program service at the state or local level or with a community-based organization.
Option 2: Four (4) years of experience providing volunteer service to people living with HIV or hepatitis C.
Option 3: A Bachelor’s degree or higher.
AND
Demonstrated experience in the following:
Lived experience, which may include one or more of the following:
Living with a complex or significant health condition and/or navigating the health care system;
Experience assisting members of Black or Hispanic/Latino/a/x communities with complex or significant health conditions as they navigate the health care system.
Experience living in Black or Hispanic/Latina/o/x communities.
Explaining complex or technical information to others in more straightforward or different language appropriate to the audience’s level of understanding and appropriately sensitive to the audience’s culture.
Lived or professional experience within the field of STD/HIV public health or community-based work.
Building rapport with others quickly and motivating them to participate in an activity.
Eliciting from others their concerns with an activity and providing information to counter those concerns in a way that enhances comfort and communication.
Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information accessed or discussed in performing partner services work.
Effectively using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in the following:
Knowledge of Washington RCW/WAC pertaining to STD/HIV
Knowledge of local, state and federal government roles in public health partner services
CDC approved training on HIV testing and STD/HIV partner services
Performing STD/HIV partner elicitation and notification.
Spanish language skills
