Job Description : Overview:
The Earth and Biological Sciences Directorate (EBSD) leads novel and necessary research in three core areas: Atmospheric and Climate Sciences, Biological Sciences, and Environmental Molecular Sciences. The contributions of EBSD staff are many as we continue to elevate the impact of PNNL’s science mission: to understand, predict, and control the complex adaptive systems underlying the science behind Earth, energy, and security.
EBSD is seeking an Earth Scientist with expertise in global data syntheses, and model-guided experimental design. The successful candidate will also be part of a multidisciplinary team focused on data syntheses, model improvements, field observations, and experiments designed to improve our predictive understanding of ecosystem processes (C and nutrient transport and transformations) across a range of scales.
Responsibilities:
Domain expertise in soil carbon, terrestrial greenhouse gas studies, wetlands, belowground ecosystems, biogeochemistry, or rhizosphere processes is required.
Expertise or experience in other scientific domains such as coastal science, ecology, biology, geology, hydrology, or atmospheric sciences would be desireable.
Familiarity with machine learning and advanced data analyses is desired, but not required.
A strong record of publications and leadership in one of the primary domains is required
Leading tasks, teams, and mentoring other staff will be an important part of this position, as will be the ability to contribute to a larger multidisciplinary team
Presenting research in peer-reviewed publications and at scientifically relevant conferences is expected.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
BS/BA with 2 years of experience MS/MA with 0-2 years of experience PhD with 0 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications:
A PhD in biology, ecology, soil science, or other environmentally-relevant science is preferred
Post-doctoral experience is preferred

Some field work may be required in remote locations
