JOB TITLE: UTILITY WORKER
JOB LOCATION: HHSC Kaua’i Region
SALARY: $3,795/month (BC03 ; BU01)
JOB FUNCTIONS: This position is located in the Environmental Services (EVS)/Housekeeping Section of Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation: Kaua’i Region. Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH), Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and the Kaua’i Region Clinics, which include The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalaheo, Specialty Clinic at Kalaheo, The Clinic at Po’ipu, Urgent Care Clinic at Po’ipu, and The Clinic at Kapa’a are part of the Kaua’i Region, Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.
The EVS/Housekeeping department provides housekeeping services throughout the hospital and personnel quarters; maintaining the hospital in a sanitary condition; cleans infectious and contaminated areas; provides pest control; picks up contaminated and other materials for disposal; and issues linen and office supplies.
The Utility Worker is responsible for performing a variety of work activities in more than one of the following: janitorial, grounds keeping, and simple building maintenance repair work; laundry and dietary tasks and other related duties as assigned. This position may work all rotating shifts including work on weekends, holidays, and overnight and may require travel to other facilities and clinic locations within the Kaua’i Region. The Utility Worker reports to the Environmental Services Superintendent I, position number 58735, or its designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek.
Education: None required. High School Graduate or GED preferred.
Experience: None required. Must demonstrate the knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment, basic grounds maintenance practices and uses of common hand tools.
Select Certification: Must possess prior Floor Technician experience within the previous two (2) years.
Certification: Preferred but not required.
Licensure: Current valid Hawai’i State driver’s license, Type 3.
DESIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of: Cleaning methods, materials and equipment; basic grounds maintenance practices; use of common hand tools. or laundry work; or preparation of raw and processed food to be cooked, methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning kitchen equipment, appliances and utensils; kitchen safety and sanitation requirements; personal hygiene; sewing, mending, and alteration methods; the operation and care of power sewing, buttonhole and cutting machines; techniques used in cutting and drafting patterns.
Ability to: Understand and follow oral and written instructions; perform heavy lifting, moving or other manual work typical of the class; clean and make minor maintenance and repairs to buildings, grounds and other facilities; operate heavy industrial type cleaning equipment; operate hand and power equipment; operate a light truck; and deal tactfully with others; or sort and fold laundry; iron; learn to operate laundry equipment; learn quantity cookery; operate kitchen equipment and appliances; measure food servings and serve food; tolerate kitchen heat and noises.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.
