Accountabilities:
Provide supervision and direction to EMTs, Construction electrician and Lineman in Power & Services to ensure the effective and timely response for electrical installation and repairs.
Ensure effective and efficient maintenance and installation of equipment.
Ensure ongoing improvement of electrical maintenance techniques and effectiveness of construction and maintenance crews.
Responsible for the safe, timely and quality maintenance and installation of all electrical, electronic and instrumentation equipment in the Company.
Responsible for the safe, timely and quality maintenance and installation of all electrical High Voltage systems in the Company.
Manages, coordinates and supervises the Power & Services EMT’s and Construction Lineman in the most practical, efficient and economical manner.
Collaborates with operating supervision as required, resolves issues under the responsibility of the Power & Services Department.
Initiates engineering requests for equipment and systems improvements and upgrades.
Ensures all workers are trained in proper work and safety procedures.
Ensures that the process and the equipment are capable of providing a quality product.
Responsible for providing technical expertise for resolution of problems associated with electrical equipment and control, Power systems and Construction projects
Responsible for maintaining and using the maintenance management system and practices. I.e. predictive maintenance, preventative maintenance and spares control.
Ensures maximum equipment and process reliability at minimum cost.
Responsible for the health and safety of all workers performing maintenance activities on equipment, including electrical, mechanical, contractors, and suppliers.
Is accountable for all aspects of safety in accordance with the Company’s Joint Health & Safety manual, including holding safety meetings, SCR use and upkeep, investigation of first treatments, near miss, lost time accidents, and employee safety concerns.
Recommends and /or designs modifications and revisions to equipment to ensure reliable operation and prevent damage to equipment and injury to personnel.
Monitor employee’s performance with regard to safety and safe working practices.
Responsible for Fiber Optics installation, repair and testing
Responsible for Switching Orders plant wide.
Collaborates with operating and maintenance personnel in determining repairs and installation of electrical equipment and services on an as required basis.
Advises, monitors, and reacts to ensure that the safety program is adhered to.
Advises monitors, and reacts to ensure due diligence is used to prevent environmental problems.
Recommends new equipment for electrical and instrumentation functions in assigned areas.
Helps set priority list for construction jobs
Qualifications:
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience within the Electrical Maintenance field and possession of either an Electrical Trade designation OR a minimum three (3) year Technology degree/diploma in an Electrical discipline.
Able to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
Proven skills in troubleshooting techniques and technical problem solving.
Demonstrated knowledge in the following systems: gas safety, instrumentation, and control systems.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills.
Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to Health, Safety and Environmental policies.
Proficient working within computerized systems, CMMS/PC skills (word processing, spreadsheets, project scheduling)
Knowledge of Algoma’s power distribution and maintenance management system is an asset.
