The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is the sixth largest transportation system in the United States, with a vast network of fixed route services including bus, subway/elevated, trackless trolley, light rail, and commuter rail serving a 2,200 square mile service region.

We are seeking candidates for the position of Accounts Payable Clerk II (5104) in the Finance/Accounting.

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of Accounts Payable Supervisor, RESEARCHES, PREPARES and PROCESSES all vendor invoices. UTILIZES personal computer applications to enter data for payment check generation. RESPONDS to vendor invoice questions. REVIEWS all vendor invoices for accuracy.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

RESEARCHES, PREPARES and PROCESSES all vendor invoices for payment. SCANS and CODES each invoice payment processed. ENTERS invoice data into personal computer program for payment check generation. SUBMITS invoices for approval.

RESPONDS to vendor invoice questions via telephone, mail, or in person as necessary.

REVIEWS all vendor statements for accuracy and ADVISES vendor of status of unpaid invoices.

POSTS all general ledger transactions, i.e., debits, credits, liability expenditures via a personal computer program.

INTERACTS with Authority personnel in various departments regarding invoice approvals and/or status of purchase order spending for current fiscal year.

ENSURES invoiced materials have been received through correspondence with the Material Control Department.

MAINTAINS vendor-filing system as assigned.

SEPARATES and OPENS vendor mail for processing.

PROCESSES all Requests for Payments, including city wage tax, union dues, credit union payments, and court orders.

BACKFILLS for other clerks when required.

PERFORMS miscellaneous clerical and filing duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalent. Typing, personal computer, general clerical and mathematics ability as acquired in high school. Experience in billing systems, forms, and methods acquired in Accounting Department or Purchasing and Stores Department.
Ability to successfully complete testing requirements, employment interview, employment history verification and criminal background check and medical examination including drug screening.
Knowledge of department and Authority policies and procedures. General knowledge of ICC classification of accounts.
