Position : Environmental Driller Helper

Job Description : JOB SUMMARY:
The Driller Helper will utilize their skills and knowledge to support drilling operations with environmental teams. Personal initiative and critical thinking skills are essential to complete job duties with minimal guidance. Assignments are deadline driven so must be able to set priorities, work efficiently and provide a consistent quality product in a team environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Support drilling activities with environmental teams on site investigations and remediation efforts. Drilling activities include soil boring installation and soil sample collection, monitoring well installation and completion, well decommissioning, and other drilling operations at the request of environmental teams.
Adhere to schedule and financial objectives, controlling time/expenditures to achieve project goals.
Support specialized drilling and data collection methods employed in site surveys and investigations.
Assist in performing drill rig maintenance as necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position currently has no supervisory responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Knowledge of OSHA laws and site safety procedures.
Implement OSHA laws and safety procedures at the job site.
Working knowledge of environmental drill operations.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Working knowledge of subsurface properties as related to drill operations is a plus.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certificate required.
Experience in federal government projects highly desired.
A broad understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations is a plus.
Experience with Health and Safety functions is a plus.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Predominantly field assignments outdoors, which may require several weeks to months in generally remote locations.
The majority of field work will occur during the summer.
Outdoor conditions may be subject to changes in weather conditions and noise levels.
May require travel in aircraft, motor vehicles, ATVs and/or watercraft for periods of days to weeks, generally in remote locations.
Must be willing and able to travel and work long hours to support rigorous timelines.
Part-time position with potential for irregular hours.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Potentially working at contaminated sites
Standing and stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity with good hand-eye coordination and motion control for handling equipment in the field.
Frequent grasping and turning of drill rig tooling
Frequent lifting and carrying of various tooling and supplies weighing less than 10 to 75 lbs.

Occasionally: crawling, climbing, crouching, balancing, lifting 51-75 lbs., eye/hand coordination (foot), fine manipulation, discriminating colors, Outside: hot/cold temperatures, humid, hazards: chemical, electrical, sharp objects/tool, heavy machinery, pressurized equipment, dry, grease, oil, mud, wet/slippery floors/surfaces.
Continuously: bending over, reaching overhead, kneeling, pushing or pulling, repetitive use of legs, grasping, close vision (clears at 20″ or less), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up & down or to the left & right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances & spatial relationships), thinking analytically, using effective verbal communication, making decisions, examining/observing details, fumes, gases, odors, dust, moving mechanical parts.
Frequently: sitting, standing, walking, talking, lifting/carrying 10-75 lbs., distance vision (clear at 20′ or more), ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object in to sharp focus), using effective written communication, handling stress & emotions, concentrating on tasks, remember details, adjusting to changes, hazards: biological, dirty (soil), noise, working with others.
