Position description
Performs complex specimen processing and testing in specialized laboratory areas using proper safety procedures. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Prepares complex specimens for diagnostic and prognostic analyses while maintaining positive patient identification throughout the process. Triages specimens according to level of complexity and patient history. May assist consultant with specimen collection. Performs designated laboratory tests demonstrating proper laboratory technique including sterile technique. Performs order entry/troubleshooting and retrieves and verifies patient information using appropriate sources. Must be able to learn and utilize multiple computer systems and have the ability to deal effectively with people in stressful situations. Works with minimal supervision and attention to detail is essential. May be responsible for handling chemicals and/or reagents including chemical hazardous waste materials.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required (G.E.D.) Basic computer skills required. ( College level education in the sciences preferred. ) Minimum of three years of experience in specimen processing required.(Specimen processing and lab testing experience preferred.)

Additional qualifications
Must have an interest in working in a laboratory or interest in biologic or chemical sciences and the ability to carry out facility operations independently. Must demonstrate organizational ability and follow directions accurately. Specific duties can be learned on the job.
