Job Description : Summary
The incumbent of this position serves as a clerk/receptionist and police matron for the Lynnwood Police Department. The position is under the direct supervision of the shift duty Sergeant and the Support Services Manager with overall supervision by a Deputy Chief of Police.
Essential Functions
Includes but is not limited to the following:
Performs clerical duties as they relate to receptionist and clerk responsibilities of the operation of a police department.
Meets the public at the counter and answers questions, provides information or solicits information in connection with reports of crime, lost or found articles, requests for service, questions about animal control, etc.
Sells animal licenses, collects impound and other animal fines, sells bicycle licenses, receives bail and fines for the court, maintains petty cash drawer properly. Accepts and receipts property and money left for prisoners in custody.
Handles people with emergencies – both in person and on the telephone.
Enters case, accident and criminal history information into a computerized police records management system.
Answers a multi-line telephone system and provides or solicits information relating to police matters.
Types short memoranda, envelopes, follow-up, etc.
Maintains various files, including accident and incident report files, correction notices, impound sheets, and bicycle licenses as well as process various city and bail receipts.
Processes teletypes received, arranges and transfers paperwork to the city attorney and court, disseminates copies of accident and incident reports, and receipts money.
Processes gun checks, firearm transfers, and concealed pistol license applications.
Operates equipment such as computer terminals, teletype, radio, intercom, copiers, fax machines, typewriter.
Maintains contact with the court regarding in-custody prisoners as well as with all interlocal agreement cities.
Performs duties of a police matron for in-custody female prisoners such as searching, taking statements and attending the female prisoners while they are in custody.
Processes juvenile referrals, aids in transporting and caring for underage children and other individuals who are brought to the station for various reasons.
Keeps a log of people visiting prisoners. Checks visitors to make sure they meet requirements.
Answers questions in regard to prisoners – amount of bail, charges and release information.
Maintains and properly processes reports taken and turned into the records section.
Disseminates police records to authorized agencies, insurance companies and individuals following state law.
Monitors various alarms and summons help depending on alarm.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier. Must be able to pass a police background investigation (to include no recent illegal drug usage), polygraph and psychological test as required. This position is represented by the Lynnwood Police Guild.
