Job Description : Plans, designs, and conducts field, greenhouse, and on-farm experiments related to the epidemiology and integrated management of diseases of corn and small grain crops; coordinates the establishment and execution of experiments at research farms; collects, processes, and analyses data from field and greenhouse experiments; prepares product-testing project reports, factsheets, and materials for presentations at scientific and extension meetings, conferences, workshops and field days; supervises research assistants, summer interns, and research aides; assists with the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication; contributes to the maintenance and calibration of field and lab instruments; assist with the preparation and maintenance of inoculum and fungal cultures, and collection and processing of diseased plant materials and grain samples from research plots and commercial fields; assists graduate students, visiting scholars, and postdoctoral researchers with their research projects.
Minimum Educational Requirement: A Master’s degree in Plant Pathology, Plant Health Management, Microbiology, Agronomy, Crop Science or related fields is required. Knowledge and experience planning, designing, and conducting field and control-environment experiments are required. Knowledge and understanding of basic principles of plant disease epidemiology and research data management and analysis are desired. Excellent oral and written communications skills are required. The incumbent must be self-motivated, willing to work with interns, graduate students, and members of an interdisciplinary team of researchers, and prepared to learn and adopt new research methods and techniques.
