Position : Animal Keeper Associate – Animal Kingdom Lodge

Job Description : Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is looking for applicants for an Animal Keeper Associate position. This is a full-time, hourly position. You will report to the Zoological Managers.

Responsibilities :

Maintain the care, well-being, management, behavioral conditioning, and enrichment of a collection of African hoofstock and birds.
Responsibilities include: cleaning, animal observations, diet preparation, and medications. Report abnormal conditions to zoological managers.
Maintain daily records, collecting and logging information, and ensuring this information is communicated to management and the central record keeping system of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
The work includes physical labor in ambient outdoor temperatures and weather conditions in Central Florida, which may include extreme heat and humidity.
Keepers are part of an area animal team and must work in a team environment. Also work with maintenance, horticulture, and veterinary staff; operations managers, educators and scientists.
Provide animal information and conservation messages through participating in guest programs.

Basic Qualifications :

Demonstrate observation, evaluation, and data collecting skills
“Guest” focus
High school degree or equivalent plus a minimum of either:
One year paid experience as a keeper in a AZA accredited institution, or in an institution with equivalent standards, and/or at least two years of verifiable college course work (60 semester hours).
Ability to work in a large team environment
Experience working with a variety of African species, including but limited to, large and small ungulates, equids, and giraffe.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with large terrestrial mammals and birds
Microsoft Office proficiency
Practical knowledge of operant conditioning

Required Education :

High school degree or equivalent plus a minimum of either:
One year paid experience as a keeper in a AZA accredited institution, or in an institution with equivalent standards, and/or at least two years of verifiable college course work (60 semester hours).
