Job Description : Job Specifications
A Journeyman Lineman Apprentice shall have ambition to become a journeyman lineman and will work and study the apprentice training courses with an end goal of becoming Department of Labor certified. He/she shall pass the examination as required by the internal Black Hills Energy Joint Apprenticeship Committee (JAC) Standards.
PAY RANGE: $33.80 – $49.03 per hour (Determined by current Collective Bargaining Agreement)
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Electric Operations Supervisor
LOCATION: Pueblo, Colorado

Must live within 60 minutes of the reporting location.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Required to work safely and follow all safety policies.
Must pass all apprenticeship lessons according to JAC apprenticeship and construction standards in order to complete all required duties and responsibilities of a Journeyman Lineman once training is complete.
Required to follow the guidance of Journeyman Lineman and Foreman that are Department of Labor certified and are therefore responsible for conducting training.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must be able to work outside, in extreme weather and temperature for extended periods of time.
This position may also include some travel for specialized training to other Black Hills Energy locations and for mutual aid storm work.
Required to work stand-by as an outage first responder.
Willing to stay over-night out of town and be available to travel as projects require.
Willing to work overtime for after-hours callouts and extended days.
Requires the ability to learn and follow all Construction and Operating Standards, Company Policies and Safety Practices.
Must be able to complete OSHA and Joint Apprenticeship Committee requirements as outlined.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of a qualified Lineman Technician program is required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Requires the ability to learn and follow all Construction and Operating Standards, Company Policies and Safety Practices.
Must be able to complete OSHA and Joint Apprenticeship Committee requirements as outlined.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
Ability to become a proficient pole climber.
Ability to attain and maintain a valid Colorado CDL Class “A” Driver’s license within 90 days of hire.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee continuously moves about the office and the job sites and operates machines and equipment. Employee may occasionally use a respirator. Employee operates job related equipment and tools. Employee routinely performs this work for an average of 8-10 hours per day and occasional extended hours as necessary. Regular, reliable, and timely attendance is expected.
Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Work environment: Occasionally perform work indoors and routinely perform work outdoors in sometimes inclement weather with moderate to high noise level. Worker may be subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working in places of height or close quarters (i.e. crawl spaces, small enclosed rooms, narrow aisles of passageways). Willing to travel up to 10% (e.g. 2 days/month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job and the employee must have proper licensing to operate a motor vehicle.
