Position Summary:

The UAA/APU Consortium Library is recruiting for a two-year, term-funded, full-time Library Resource Sharing Specialist – Library Technician 2. This position manages Interlibrary Loan lending and document delivery at the Consortium Library on the UAA main campus.

Duties:

Access Services Support: Provide Customer Service support at various public desks on an as needed basis.Off-Site Storage: Retrieve/return items from an off-site storage facility as needed to complete resource sharing requests. Identify and resolve issues with collection of materials and these processes.Borrowing: Train and be familiar with all Interlibrary Loan Borrowing procedures: Searching, borrowing, renewing and returning books and articles. Support acquisition orders, database management, patron support and customer service.

Pull annual reports.Lending: Manages the lending and document delivery of library materials (physical and electronic) to other libraries through scanning or mailing documents. Processes interlibrary loan requests and materials in ILLiad, SIRSI and OCLC Worldshare ILL. Identifies and resolves problems related to ILL lending. Supervises and/or trains ILL student employees, and provides guidance and instruction to library support staff performing tasks related to ILL lending. Assists with improving lending policies, procedures, and workflows. Provides assistance to staff at other library institutions. Work with Income Manager on invoices.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the mission and role of college or university library and its primary customers.
Ability to learn and apply contemporary library terminology and functions.
Understanding and ability to apply library and university computing policies and practices that help ensure information quality, integrity, and security.
Knowledge and ability to apply U.S. Copyright laws and current trends related to access and use of information resources including licensing agreements with publishers.
Knowledge of basic principles of quality customer service, teamwork, and conflict resolution.
Ability to work independently and exercise initiative in applying rules, procedures and instructions.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
Experience and proficiency with one or more technologies or tools used to create, seek, use, or manage information.
Ability to learn and operate a variety of common computing and productivity applications (e.g. email, word processing, databases and spreadsheets, content management, web browsers) and specialized library hardware, systems, and software applications.
Skill in analytical and problem solving.
Knowledge of basic principles of quality customer service.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Experience working in an academic library:

Experience in leading and training student assistants or other employees.
Familiarity using ILLiad, SIRSI Workflows, and/or OCLC WorldShare, and/or RapidILL.
Familiarity operating multifunction printers and scanners and microfilm/microfiche readers.
Bachelor’s Degree

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Extensive work at a computer and copiers/scanners.
Works in an area of high activity, which may be stressful on occasion
Work involves standing, reaching, stooping, bending, lifting and moving objects (up to 50 pounds), including loaded book trucks.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

At least one year of experience directly related to the primary duties of the job.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

High school diploma or GED.

Alaska State Driver License is required.

SALARY INFORMATION:

This is a full-time, two-year, term-funded, 12-month, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 75, based on education and experience.
