Position : Investigative Assistant
Job Description : Patten, Wornom, Hatten & Diamonstein (PWHD), a prominent Newport News, Virginia law firm, is seeking applications for an Investigative Assistant. This opportunity requires excellent reading, writing, summarizing, and people skills. The ideal candidate will be comfortable meeting and interviewing new people as well as following and tracking leads. While working under the supervision of Attorneys, this position has exciting potential to advance into a full investigative position. The Investigative Assistant candidate needs to be motivated and willing to take direction, manage competing tasks, have reliable transportation, and reside in or plans to relocate to the Hampton Roads region of Virginia.Duties include: Working closely with investigators and attorneys to create strategies specific to each client.Identifying, locating, and effectively interviewing clients and witnesses (telephonically and in person).Preparing detailed documentation of the conversations and meetings as the attorneys will use them as they prepare for litigation.Researching the products, worksites, ships, companies, and potential witnesses through various media (such as subpoenaed documents, National Archive searches, public data repositories, public and private internet platforms, etc.).Reviewing and preparing summaries, affidavits, spreadsheets, and other documents based on findings.Utilizing Microsoft Office products effectively and efficiently to create, organize, and maintain spreadsheets and information.Minimum qualifications: Type 70 words per minute (minimum)Excellent reading comprehension, writing skills, and ability to extract and summarize relevant information.Excellent social skills, ability to connect with clients and witnesses, and the ability to conduct detailed telephonic and in-person interviews.Ability to take direction, learn complex tasks and concepts quickly, and to work as a member of a team.Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines, the ability to reprioritize tasks to meet day-to-day contingencies.Expert knowledge and daily use of Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and others) and Adobe.Degree in English, Communication, History, Theater, or similar, preferred.PWHD offers a competitive salary and benefits package to qualified employees and is an equal opportunity employer.Job Type: Full-timeBenefits:Dental insuranceEmployee assistance programFlexible spending accountHealth insuranceHealth savings accountLife insurancePaid time offRetirement planVision insuranceSchedule:Day shiftMonday to FridayEducation:Bachelor’s (Preferred)License/Certification:Driver’s License (Required)Work Location: One location
