Position : Camp Sivunniigvik Caretaker
Job Description : This position is responsible for Camp Sivunniigvik (Camp) general onsite care, hosting, security, and maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Monitors Camp’s buildings, areas, docks, and grounds. Permits only properly authorized individuals to utilize the property. Periodically examines structures, surrounding doors, windows, etc. to ensure they are operational and secure. Visually inspects and maintains camp facilities and grounds.
Carries our routine activities such as set up, cleaning, and take down of camp housing facilities, proper storage of equipment, etc.
Performs preventative and regular maintenance of structures, vehicles, mechanical, heating, or plumbing items. Operates and maintains an onsite electrical system. Maintenance may be high-level and/or specialized and may require assistance from a contracted outside source.
Reports incidents such as property damage, unusual occurrences, maintenance and supply needs, visitors, etc. to Camp Coordinator in a weekly report.
Safely operates small watercraft, snow machines, ATV’s for moving and transporting equipment, people, etc.
Warns violators of rule infractions and may apprehend or expel violators for security purposes
. Camp Sivunniigvik is a NO tolerance, NO alcohol, NO drugs property for all staff, contractors, participants, and visitors
.
Cleans work area, tools, equipment. Transports trash and waste to disposal area.
Possible subsistence as needed to provide niqipiaq for camp events (food should be processed according to Inupiaq best preservation practices). This will require prior communications with Inunnialiqput Operations Manager.
Camp Sivunniigvik is a regional Search & Rescue shelter cabin site. Caretaker will host visitors as needed. All visitors must comply with all Camp rules and regulations.
Other related duties may also be assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
Two years directly related maintenance and security experience. Willingness to demonstrate abilities.
Have good organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work widely varying hours per day and varying days per week.
Ability to perform a variety of tasks, outside in extreme climates.
Must be willing to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification and attend Wilderness First Aid training.
Must be able to work without direct supervision.
This is an alcohol and drug-free work environment.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Outdoor, frequently exposed to arctic conditions.
Noise level: Moderate to Loud.
Description of environment: This is a remote camp setting.
Physical requirements: Employees must constantly be able to stand, walk, climb, push, pull use hands and arms, stoop, kneel and crouch. Must be able to lift and/or move 50+ lbs.
Travel: Employee may travel up to 50% to various locations within the U.S. and/or remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes, and ATVs.
Competencies
Language skills sufficient to:
Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Write routine reports and correspondence.
Self-starter, mechanical ability, subsistence knowledge, good-mannered, hospitable.
