Job Description : Cultural Coordinator Mat-Su 2024 Arctic Winter GamesArctic Winter Games Overview:The Mat-Su 2024 Arctic Winter Games Host Society was formed to plan and deliver a world class sporting and cultural event, welcoming 2,000 participants and an equal number of volunteers, from around the circumpolar north. This event includes 21 traditional and heritage winter sport competitions as well as a weeklong indigenous cultural exchange program.Position Description:The Cultural Coordinator will work with all committees to deliver a diverse and inclusive experience for the Mat-Su 2024 Arctic Winter Games, the athletes, spectators, distinguished guests and the Alaskan community. In conjunction with the Cultural Director, act as a professional resource to committee chairs in ensuring the Indigenous Peoples of the Mat-Su andAlaskan communities are woven into the spirit of the 2024 Mat-Su Arctic Winter Games.The Cultural Coordinator will support the overall Cultural programming for the Games.The candidate will be responsible for a) Directly supporting the Cultural Program Director and Committee; b) Assisting the following committees, but not limited to:Ceremonies and AwardsMarketing (Culture)Facilities and EquipmentLanguage Services (volunteer and protocol)Media c) Assisting with the development of a Games Cultural Program; d) Direct liaison with Unit Cultural Mission staff or cultural contacts; e) Recommending and then coordinating with the various performers, displays and other elements of the culture program; f) Assisting in the recruitment and management of volunteers; g) Attendance at Board and Committee Meetings, & available for public events as scheduled h) Assisting in the maintenance of an effective inter-committee communications and information exchange system; and i) Other duties as determined by the Host Society Board of Directors.The role will support the following operational goals:Oversee Cultural Committee volunteer workforce.Ensure Cultural Technical Packet specifications are met.Laisse with the Provincial, State or National Cultural Organizations building community relationships.Communicate with Venue Managers for Cultural Program needs onsite as well as set up& strike.Secure all Cultural equipment and manage inventory/shipping requirements.Maintain a positive relationship with Tribal entities and partners by staying abreast of current issues in Tribal Communities and collaborating with awareness and sensitivity.Recruit Tribal Community Members, Cultural Teachers and Elders within the District to be a part of the planning and implementation of the AWG volunteer work force.Communication with all related stakeholders, chairs and venue managers to establish Cultural support for each venue. Ensure the provision of all on-site participant services. Assist with the recruitment, training and scheduling of all Cultural Committee volunteers. Work closely with volunteers including the Board of Directors and Committee Chairs.Qualifications Experience working with tribal councils preferred. Work, or volunteer experience within a multi-sport games considered an asset.You will possess the following:Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, customer service with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community partners, sponsors, stakeholders, andGames staff. Outstanding operational and logistical skills with the ability to maximize resources while considering budget constraints and limitations. Proven ability to complete tasks and projects on time under stressful conditions, while maintaining composure, professionalism, sound judgment, flexibility, and effectiveness when working in a fast-paced work environment, with limited information.Strong communication skills, both verbally and written with the ability to accurately record information.Must be a self-starter and work with minimal supervision and direction. Strong advocate for theMat-Su with connections to a wide range of organizations. A high proficiency with MicrosoftOffice programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and GSuite. Proven effectiveness in community relationship building. Excellent records management and administrative skills. A valid Driver’s License is required to operate a personal or AWG vehicle for business use.M ust be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
