Position Objectives:
TEMPORARY SEASONAL POSITION SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF BUDGET FUNDS
**YOU MUST HAVE A VALID DRIVERS LICENSE**

Under the supervision of the port director, performs maintenance and repair of Port facilities. Patrols operating areas to include cargo dock, petrol dock, harbor, seawall, adjacent waterways and beach areas. Logs vessel traffic, sells user permits and logs daily activity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
Performs preventative maintenance and repair of Port facilities;
Sells Small Boat Harbor permits to boats and verifies all vessels have valid use permits;
Collects user fees from the general public;
Logs vessel traffic in and out of port facilities; records and tracks freight; completes dockage reports;
Patrols docks, harbor, seawall, waterways and beach areas and identifies security concerns;
Monitors safety conditions at docks, seawall, waterways and beach areas; responds appropriately to mitigate identified safety concerns; notifies owners of leaking/sinking vessels when identified;
Serves as Security Guard protecting City-owned and user property at port facilities;
Completes a Daily Log Activity sheet for each shift worked;
Installs and removes floats in the boat harbor;
Conducts operations and maintains work area/facility in compliance with OSHA safety standards and U.S. Coast Guard requirements;
Follows all City and Department policies and operating procedures and applicable federal and state laws.
Minimum Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of general maintenance and repair;
Working knowledge of applicable U.S. Coast Guard regulations and requirements;
Ability to weld desirable;
Ability to safely operate heavy commercial equipment (forklift, loader, dump truck, bulldozer);
Ability to operate Port-owned vessel(s);
Ability to successfully inter-act and communicate information to the public and other employees, orally and in writing;
Ability to comprehend and apply verbal and written instructions, correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence based on oral or written instructions or templates.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid Alaska Driver’s License.
Desirable Training and Experience:
Experience and/or Education:
Long shore, deckhand, and non-recreational boat operations experience desirable.
Experience as a certified security guard desirable.

Work Environment: The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places and outside weather conditions, and extreme cold. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock; and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
