Job Description : The Department of Administration, Office of Public Advocacy is recruiting for a Project Assistant in Juneau!
The position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at range 16.

What you will be doing:
This position is responsible for the overall coordination of the Juneau CASA Program, to include outreach and recruitment of volunteers; screening, training and retention activities; data collection and reporting; and grant management. This program will also be expanding to include volunteers in Ketchikan and Sitka. This position reports to the State Director of Alaska CASA and works in conjunction with Guardians ad Litem and program staff around the state to see more children/youth served by CASA volunteers.

In your role you will have direct influence on the local Juneau CASA Program. As part of the team you will be included in statewide decisions on the function and direction of Alaska CASA.

Our organization, mission and culture:
CASA Programs throughout Alaska recruit, train, and oversee volunteers who are tasked with becoming an expert on minors who are the subject of open child in need of aid (CINA) cases to ensure focused best interest advocacy for the children/youth involved in assigned cases. Our purpose is to make a positive difference in the life of children/youth who have experienced abuse and/or neglect.

Under Alaska CASA there are 4 local CASA Programs located in Anchorage, Mat-Su Valley, Fairbanks, & Juneau. Each local program has a local program coordinator who is a part of the greater Alaska CASA team. Local Program Coordinators and the State Director of Alaska CASA work collaboratively to ensure each program reaches as many children/youth as possible and to ensure each local program is given the ability to recruit, train, and oversee volunteers in a way that meets the local standards regarding best interest advocacy as well as standards identified by the National CASA Association. Members of the CASA team are committed to ensuring children and youth in abuse and neglect cases receive the best possible best interest advocacy through the work of CASA volunteers. Our hope is that each volunteer be the “expert” on the children/youth involved in the cases they are assigned. The working environment you can expect:
The position is at the Juneau Office of Public Advocacy (OPA) civil office in a private office next to OPA staff Guardians ad Litem & Public Guardians. Some travel for recruitment & training throughout Southeast may be required as we expand to communities throughout Southeast. There may also be the occasional trip to the Anchorage area for training and team building exercises.

Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in any field.
AND EITHER
One year of technical experience where the primary purpose of the job is to perform research and/or data interpretation and apply and disseminate technical, statutory and regulatory requirements for agency use or to the public.
OR
One year of technical experience in community development, research, social services, economics, public administration, planning, or a closely related field.
OR SUBSTITUTION:
Five years in any combination of post-secondary education and technical experience where the primary purpose of the job is to perform research and/or data analysis, interpret, explain, and apply statutory and regulatory requirements, and disseminate technical information for agency use or to the public. (3 semester or 4 quarter hours of post-secondary education are equal to one month of experience).

EDUCATION
If post-secondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications, you must fill in the Education and Training section of the Applicant Profile. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of credit hours earned in the Degrees Obtained field. Copies of transcripts will be required at the time of interview.

If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the post-secondary institution. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
