Job Description : JOB TITLE: Echo Sonographer
DEPARTMENT: Imaging
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: With physician orders, performs high quality diagnostic echocardiography on adult patients under both National and AHI guidelines. Completes technologist impression of study, often in written form. Evaluation, coordination, and supervision of technical proficiency shall be provided by the physicians.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Works near radiation exposure. Stands for long periods of time, walks, bends, lifts objects, moves and positions patients/equipment. Exposure to infectious materials, cuts and abrasions from equipment.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Coordinates patient echocardiograms. Performs correct exams after accurate patient identification and order verification.
Prepares patient for exam and explains nature of tests to patient. Ensures informed consent forms are signed.
Produces diagnostic ultrasounds/echocardiograms according to established protocols.
Evaluates ultrasound video for technical accuracy and diagnostic quality
Records administration of echocardiogram to patients in a timely manner
Maintains echo data base on a daily basis.
Performs duties according to AHI safety and infection control policies and procedures.
Performs office and clerical duties related to echo department, primarily transcription with Echotrac and filing of reports. Maintains a clean, safe and orderly office.
Transports patients to and from the procedure area
Performs monthly quality assurance procedures as required.
Responsible for the confidentiality of material and information with patient medical records
Participates in continuing education to keep up to date on changes in echo technology and procedures. Attends inservices as necessary
Assumes responsibility for assignments and follows clinic policies and procedures with minimal supervision. Willingness to work variable schedule.
Attends clinic staff meetings.
Other duties as assigned by manager.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of echo technology, technical principles and procedures. Full knowledge of the equipment to perform Echo procedures including calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting.
Knowledge of quality care standards for echocardiograms
Knowledge of safety requirements for staff, patients and visitors.
Knowledge and utilization of AHI information systems according to protocols.
Thorough knowledge of human anatomy to optimize ultrasound images.
Skill and accuracy in manipulation of transducer and patient to optimize imaging procedures.
Skill in using computer network system competently to process patient and department information.
Skill in assuming responsibility for safety factors.
Ability to work in a cooperative nature within and outside department with staff, patients and families. Regularly assists co-workers in other clinical areas.
Ability to complete assignments according to clinic schedules. Works to maintain department productivity levels.
Ability to explain procedures clearly and simply to patients. Maintains awareness of individual patient needs.
Ability to adjust schedule in response to clinic needs. Remains calm in stressful situations.
Demonstrate ability to multi-task; perform tasks within time frames assigned.
Demonstrate schedule flexibility; adjust to shifting priorities; stay organized in a changing environment; stay focused during stressful or difficult situations; exhibit comfort with ambiguity.

Education:
Minimum: Graduate of AMA approved school of Cardiac Echocardiography.
Experience:
Minimum: One year as a primary or assistant cardiac echocardiographer.
Certificate/License: Completion of Registry by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or Cardiovascular Credentialing International, current CPR certification.
