Job Description : GEOSPATIAL WEBSITE PROGRAMMER – ID# 222182Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), Climate Resilience Initiative (CRI), located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i . Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $3,822.00/Mon.DUTIES: Works closely with CRI leadership and the Pacific Islands Ocean Observing System (PacIOOS) data management group to design, develop, and deploy the second-generation Hawai‘i Sea Level Rise Viewer (SLRV). Supported with funds from the Office of Naval Research, the incumbent is responsible for the end-to-end design and implementation of a robust user-facing online atlas that provides highly resolved and interactive geospatial data depicting projections for future hazard exposure and assessing economic and other vulnerabilities due to rising sea levels. Responsible to design product designed to meet user needs and be compliant with Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS)-designated standards and best practices and to integrate seamlessly with existing PacIOOS systems.PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or related field. EXPERIENCE: Three to five (3-5) years of experience with data handling and product development, specifically handling large-volume and/or multi-format datasets. Documented experience with designing and developing integrated web-based services that link data to applications, include Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) services (Web Coverage Service (WCS), Web Map Server (WMS), Web Feature Service (WFS)) and Thematic Realtime Environmental Distributed Data Servers (THREDDS). ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Proficient in UNIX operating system in a networked computer environment. Full understanding of scripting languages Perl and python. Experience with Linux system administration, including writing and deploying cron jobs. A strong grasp of data modeling, analysis, and visualization methodologies. Demonstrated ability to plan and organize large data product development projects. Ability to write software to interface between databases and web-based tools (e.g., XML, XSLT, etc.). Experience with the following: GIS, web-browsing tools, data base development and/or management, data server implementation, real-time data acquisition systems, data product development.
