Job Description : When it comes to creative teaching aids, teachers have come to depend on The Education Fund‘s Center for Educational Materials to provide them with not only that unique tool to motivate their students, but also the everyday staples they need. The Center for Educational Materials is a warehouse and distribution program that accepts donations of usable excess inventory, remnants, leftovers, surplus supplies and more from companies, which it then makes available free of charge to Miami-Dade County Public Schools teachers for their classrooms.Program events include a yearly art exhibit that combines the power of a child’s imagination with the ultimate recycling program. Students use everyday objects “found” in the 11,000 sq. foot Center warehouse to design and create original works of art that are showcased to the public. Another event, The Education Fund’s Annual Art Auction & Charity Event, allows students and teachers to exhibit their art – both ‘found objects’ art and art done in other mediums – to the business, philanthropic and alumni community. The event is a unique affair where food, music, art and a “salute to community leaders who attended public schools” all intersect to raise friends and funds for the future of education.Sound intriguing? Our current manager’s spouse is being transferred, so we need someone new!Responsibilities include:– Managing a distribution program that solicits inventory from businesses and provides these items to students via teacher “shopping” and other distribution methods– Creating and implementing outreach campaigns to help fill the warehouse with usable items– Inspiring prek-12 public school teachers to shop and get involved at all levels in the program– Managing ‘Teacher visits/shopping” including outreach to teachers to confirm teacher visits; checking teachers in/out during teacher visits in the after school, in the evening and on Saturdays; treating teachers like customers while also maintaining the rules of the Center; and answering teachers questions about the Ocean Bank Center during teacher visits and via phone and by email.– Overseeing the Center’s volunteer program, including recruiting, scheduling and managing volunteers to assist with shopping days, sorting, shelving items, etc. at the warehouse– Overseeing the art programming by coordinating with the district art dept. to schedule workshops, encouraging art teachers to submit students and their own artwork for the Ocean Bank Center art exhibit and art auction, recruiting art teachers and others to help hand the exhibit and the art auction, managing a judging process with the help of individuals from the arts community, creating an awards event for students and parents– Managing the program budget and associated event budgets including convincing vendors to provide in-kind or discounted services– Completing paperwork related to program – including documenting the value of donated items, entering donations into inventory & into the inventory map, tracking teacher visits and other distribution of goods to benefit students, tracking volunteer work, pulling teacher survey reports, etc.– Conducting quarterly inventories– Supervising contractors who work with the program, including an individual who drives the forklift and another who manages trucking and other aspects of the program plus working as part of a team to create a successful art auction– Managing other aspects of the Ocean Bank Center as assigned– Working as part of a team at The Education FundQualifications Desired:– Superior organizational skills– Excellent customer service skills– Demonstrated success in multi-tasking and juggling multiple priorities– Ability to work independently and supervise others– Flexibility to handle additional projects as assigned– Willingness to work in a warehouse/warehouse store, getting your hands dirty doing whatever needs to be done– Ability to communicate verbally and in writing– Experience organizing and directing volunteers– Demonstrated skills in tracking and completing program paperwork– Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, eBlast programs similar to Constant Contact and other technology/software programs– Willingness to work when teachers are able to visit the Center (i.e. early evenings and Saturdays)– Desire to work for a non-profit organization that improves public education– Graphic design skills helpful but not requiredThis is the perfect position for a highly reliable, extremely energetic self-starter, who doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty, loves to get others involved, and is interested in improving the lives of our public school children.This is a fulltime position. Compensation is based on experience and includes benefits.
