Job Description : Purpose Built Families Foundation is looking for an extraordinary applicant to lead development of the nation’s most innovative, comprehensive model for helping veterans being released from jail and prison successfully reintegrate into the South Florida community (Broward and Miami-Dade counties). Our expectation is that beyond helping hundreds of veterans transition back to lives of freedom and potential each year, this program will become a national best practice that will continue to be evolved and replicated throughout the country.Applicants must be at a very stable place in their lives where they can be available in a crisis for the clients we serve and to invest 100% of your heart and mind into bringing this program to life. We know this isn’t for most people and strongly encourage you to only pursue this role if you’re at a place in your life where you can take on this kind of responsibility where you’ll face constant hourly and daily challenges that must get timely attention to serve people very much counting on our agency.Program Director, Reentry ServicesAs Program Director for Re-Entry Services, you’ll be fully responsible for building out and then supporting ongoing efforts to help veterans being released into our community from prisons throughout the state have the best opportunity to achieve independence and permanent housing stability as close as possible to the first day of their release. This role will also make you a member of our agency’s leadership team that includes our CEO, CFO, General Counsel, Administrative Director, Care Director, Engagement Director, GPD Director, Permanent Housing Director, Health Care Navigation Director, and Recruitment/Training Director.Your job will require leading agency efforts to develop collaborative relationships within the Florida prison and judicial system to give us access as early as possible to veterans scheduled for release within six months of their release dates, coordinate meetings and communication with those veterans in order to inform them about our program (and ultimately ensure the program is a widely known entity), provide enrollment opportunities, gather documents to support our efforts to identify and pursue benefits to which they may be entitled upon release, and understand each veteran’s unique circumstances and aspirations. In this role, you will oversee enrollment and eligibility screening and related processes, provide direct services to enrolled veterans, and supervise others who are assigned to provide direct services to enrolled veterans. You will also be responsible for overseeing our coordination of a full array of supportive services for each enrolled veteran from our Engagement, Health Care Navigation, Benefits, Legal, Housing (GPD, Emergency Housing, Shallow Subsidy, and Permanent Housing Departments), and Care Teams to provide the best opportunity for each veteran to achieve independence based on his/her unique circumstances and aspirations. We will integrate relationship skills training into the program, similar to a model successfully implemented by Bar Ilan University in Israel over more than 15 years, which included providing evidence-based skills training both to the individual prior to prison release and, when possible, similar skills training in separate sessions to family, friends and social supports who will be the foundation of the veteran’s life after release. As part of that responsibility, you’ll work with our creative team on updating select training and curriculum materials for this unique program, collateral materials explaining this program to prospective clients and partner agencies, the various forms we’ll need, and a website specific to this initiative. You’ll also be expected to regularly write and present scholarly articles and other reports to share information about this program with the public and other professionals pursuing similar objectives in their communities.Program GoalsWhile we do not yet have sufficient information to set precise goals, our hope is that we will serve at least 300 reentry veterans each year through this program. We will learn more over the months ahead about whether that number should be adjusted upward or downward.Measures of SuccessOngoing measures of success will include number of prospects considered, number of veterans enrolled, number of veterans who successfully exited our program, number of veterans permanently housed, amount of benefits obtained, percent of veterans who remained successfully housed at six months, 12 months, two years and beyond, percent of veterans subsequently charged with additional crimes, and percent of veterans who returned to jail or prison. We will also want to carefully monitor our total cost of services so ultimately that can be compared to the cost of incarceration and reported publicly along with our program results. You will be expected to post on social media about how our program is helping reentering Veterans to promote accessibility, partnerships, and replication.During the early stages of the program, system measures we will track via our Salesforce.com CRM platform will include the number of incoming and outgoing calls and Zoom meetings, numbers of meetings with prospects and potential service partners, and program enrollments.Strong Preference for Hiring Veterans and Military Family MembersAs a Veteran Service Organization, we give strong preference to hiring Veteran applicants, including family members and military spouses who have firsthand knowledge of the military and Veteran experience, and social service professionals with a significant history delivering exceptional services to military and veteran communities.Only candidates that follow the application instructions by providing RESUME and a COVER LETTER SPECIFIC TO THIS POSTING will be considered. Please do not send us incomplete applications or respond to this posting without fully reading the complete description and requirements.Qualities of Successful ApplicantsIf this sounds right to you, please read on. Are you able to always keep in mind that everyone means well and that clumsiness is part of what happens when people are engaged at that level of commitment? Are you energized by conversations that matter and recognize meaningful human connection is one of life’s most precious gifts? Are empathy and compassion two of your most natural traits? Are you a great listener? Do others know it’s safe confiding in you? Do you listen with all your senses?Do you learn quickly and stick with challenges long after others typically give up because you know there’s a solution waiting to be found? Can people going through trauma and despair count on you working independently and as part of a dedicated team to help them imagine, build and create a bridge to a better future? Are you at a place in life where you can actively pursue a vocation you cherish and not simply a job measured by the size of your paycheck? Are you able to be flexible with your schedule to be available to the veterans you serve on nights and weekends when that’s needed?Do you regularly stay updated on articles, research and other lessons from the field and participate in social media opportunities (LinkedIn in particular) to create relationships with others working to make the world a better place? These are some of the most important qualities that are the foundation of the team that brings Purpose Built Families Foundation to life each day. We are all, of course, human, while working diligently through every point of contact to bring out the best in ourselves and others because of how much we’re inspired and guided by what’s at stake, which is the lives of those we serve.About Operation Sacred TrustPurpose Built Families Foundation’s Operation Sacred Trust (“OST”) team is committed to ending and preventing homelessness for Veterans in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
