Under the leadership of Mike Gaby, its Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) and President since 2009, the business has grown considerably, fueled by expanding services to meet evolving customer needs. Their manufacturing business operates under the name Pennant Moldings, Inc. (“Pennant”) and consists of three operating facilities. Pennant Companies has been in operation for more than 50 years and is profitable.Pennant is a one-stop-shop, high volume contract manufacturer providing best-in-class metal stamping, roll-formed parts, progressive die stampings, and clips/fasteners from its three core manufacturing facilities located in Sabina, Ohio (150,000 square feet), Pioneer, Ohio (65,000 square feet), and Lebanon, Tennessee (100,000 square feet). Each location is overseen by a General Manager, and its total workforce numbers 300+ FTE’s. All three plants are on the same global operating system, Visual.Pennant’s customers include a variety of original equipment manufacturers, including those from the appliance, automotive, RV, building products, and solar sectors. Key products include decorative stainless- steel stampings (i.e., dishwashers, oven and refrigerator doors, oven doors, drawers, and control panels); roll-formed parts (solar field supports, RV awnings, refrigerator channels, shelving and mullions); and progressive die stampings (various appliance parts, automotive and industrial motor housings).In the past ten years, Pennant Companies has averaged double digit organic sales growth and grown from a two-location $17 million business, into a four-location company, with annual sales in excess of $90 million. This dramatic growth has necessitated the need for a more experienced leader who can run Operations for thePennant Moldings business.Position Overview: The new Vice President of Operations (“VPO”) will report to the CEO and be a critical addition to the Company’s Executive Leadership Team. The business needs an “operational guru” who will leverage their experience and Best Practices to enhance the performance of these three locations, implement a metrics-driven culture, and instill consistent processes and procedures for maximum efficiency.Initially, you will oversee Pennant’s 3 General Managers, and invest the necessary time to mentor and develop them. Assisting them to ensure they have the proper talent at their respective sites, and the proper recruiting strategies will be needed. Additionally, bringing a continuous improvement mindset is a must as there are several areas that need to be addressed – such as current systems, supply chain, scaling for the future, outperforming competitors, and other strategic initiatives, including M & A.The position will be based in Columbus. It is expected that 60% of your time will be spent at these 3 sites though travel will be greater early on to accelerate your learning curve.Job Responsibilities and Duties: Lead, manage and own the day-to-day Operations responsibilities of Pennant Moldings. Achieve all desired financial and business targets from their three locationsBring a proven “Operations Playbook” that can be leveraged; help shape a new, go-forward roadmapImplement a global operating plan based on Best Practices to have each facility using the same operating metrics and reporting structureEvaluate and enhance KPI’s to bring stronger financial discipline to the business (in partnership with Board of Directors, CEO and CFO)Develop necessary operational reporting for the Executive Leadership Team and Board of DirectorsImplement “live” capacity planning across all 3 plantsEvaluate current business systems for weaknesses – determine if a better alternative is neededMentor and develop your direct reports; and develop an Operations talent strategy for/with eachBetter coordinate the Supply Chain function across the businesses to improve efficiency/cut wasteCoordinate and standardize a corporate Continuous Improvement strategy and drive this to successEvaluate and improve workflow; define, modernize, and implement core processes so Pennant can accelerate growth, drive out costs, and scale profitably and seamlesslyEnsure Quality is a priority and that the proper procedures exist and are complied withPrioritize, recommend, and justify all CapEx expenditures; and manage your department budgetAssess and Top Grade the functional areas and engage the workforce under your leadership in devising and implementing the necessary processes to make all functions Best in ClassImprove and create strong infrastructure and protocols so that communication and workflow between individuals and departments are seamlessMake sure everyone understands their roles and responsibilities (including goals, meaningful KPI’s, and performance metrics) to ensure alignment between Operations and the business strategyImplement a culture of accountability across entire organizationBring a “customer-centric” orientation to work daily so growth and Customer Experience drives Pennant’s growth and pace of changeSkills and Position Requirements: Proven track record as a multi-plant Operations Leader with prior P & L experience strongly desiredPrior Manufacturing experience (stamping or roll forming preferred) having led an Operations workforce of hundreds of people is a mustRegularly delivered and/or exceeded quarterly/annual/multi-year goals; can successfully operate within annual operating budgets. Must have strong Working Capital and Inventory Control skillsProven experience driving performance improvement and operations optimization for production planning (forecasting and scheduling), manufacturing, quality, safety, inventory control, logistics, and distribution. Can improve yields and manage waste effectivelyCommand of a proven quality improvement methodology and system, such as Lean or Six SigmaStrong financial acumen; defines and uses metrics to maximize Company/individual performancePrior experience evaluating and justifying the ROI for Capital Expenditures/InvestmentsEffective recruiter and developer of talent; one who has built/ led high performing teamsProject Management experience, demonstrated ability to meet deadlinesProcess expert and change agent – one who has developed and implemented processes and succeeded in teaching themStrategic thinker, not afraid to introduce new ideas and challenge the status quoPrior M & A experience from an operational standpoint is criticalOne who embraces Technology – experience upgrading a new ERP system a plusHighly motivated, results-driven professional who can thrive in a team-oriented environment. Effective collaborator with all functional areas, especially Sales and R & DExperience in summarizing and presenting Company results in formal Management or Board of Director settings, preferably in private equity-backed environmentsEntrepreneurial attitude – willingness to roll up the sleeves and work alongside staff to make things happen quickly.
