Job Description : OverviewYouth Villages is hiring Behavioral Youth Counselors/Assistants and Teacher Assistants! Competitive candidates will be provided details about the interview day – including time, location and directions.All applicants who attend the hiring event will interview with our residential team and campus leadership.ResponsibilitiesYouth Villages’ Residential Treatment programs serve children with emotional and behavioral problems. Our residential campuses provide the setting for an intensive treatment program that combines the unique balance of structure and freedom. This enables children and their families to identify, understand and cope with their individual needs and develop the skills necessary to succeed in less restrictive settings. We have three different types of facilities—Intensive Residential Centers, Open Campuses, and Group Homes. Located in Tennessee and Georgia, all of these facilities utilize the Re-Education of Emotionally Disturbed Children therapy model (Re-Ed).Position Overviews: Teacher Assistant (first shift)Supports Certified Teachers and Paraprofessionals to engage youth and support participation in the classroom settingOversees morning routine – helping youth get ready for schoolResponsible for behavioral management on the courtyard and in the classroomContributes to planning of activities and leads and engages youth in all activities and groups during the shift on school holidays and school breaksParticipate in training and in-service activitiesAssist with tutoring individuals and/or small groups of studentsAssists in treatment planning for each childProvides instruction to improve children’s behavior through coping skills development and other therapeutic interventionsParticipate in community based activities, group trips, and transport clients to various locationsParticipate in experiential learning experiences and recreational therapy with childrenConducts daily documentation such as contact notes, milieu notes, and precautionary notesThe schedule for this Residential Treatment campus: Weekday first shift (7am-3:30pm) but will also assist with second shift and/or weekends when additional support is neededBehavioral Youth Counselor/Assistant (second shift)Also known as a Teacher CounselorTeaches the children necessary life skills and provides for their physical daily care and behavioral managementAssists in treatment planning for each childParticipates in training and in-service activitiesConducts daily documentation such as contact notes, milieu notes, and precautionary notesContributes to all evening and weekend milieu activity schedule contentLeads and engages youth in all evening and weekend activities and groupsProvides instruction to improve children’s behavior through coping skills development and other therapeutic interventionsParticipates in community-based activities, group trips, and transports clients to various locationsParticipates in experiential learning experiences and recreation therapy with childrenImproves children’s behavior through coping skills and other therapeutic interventionsThe schedule for this Residential Treatment campus: Runs either Sun, Wed-Fri or Sat, Mon-WedThree weekdays: (M-W or W-F) 3:00pm-11:30pmOne weekend day: 7am-11:30pmAverage Annual Salary ranges from $46,000 to $54,000 (for Bachelor’s level positions/2nd shift).Pay varies and is based on position, schedule, and hours worked.QualificationsRequirementsHigh School Diploma (required)Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) – additional pay increase for bachelor’s levelExperience working with at-risk youth (plus)Excellent written, verbal and oral skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities simultaneouslyBasic computer knowledgeAbility to maintain a flexible scheduleThe supervision and treatment of youth requires prolonged periods of walking and standing and physical agility. May be required to run and climb flights of stairs. Must be able to participate in physical interventions with youth when necessary.
