Job Description : Assistant Head of School at The GLOBE Academy Upper Campus, K-3rd gradeROLE OVERVIEW: The Assistant Head of School’s job is to support the Head of School in achieving the school’s overall vision, specifically through executing the school’s vision for student culture and school operations. The Assistant Head of School is the testing coordinator, scheduling master, the first staff contact for all student discipline concerns and is responsible for building staff capacity in implementing Responsive Classroom practices, Social Emotional Learning practices and other proactive measures to ensure positive, safe and productive classroom learning environments. In addition, through close collaboration with GLOBE’s CFO and central team, the Assistant Head of School will ensure consistent and highly effective school operations in areas such as budgeting, facilities management, scheduling, technology and classroom resources.OUTCOMES: 1. Students are deeply engaged in a positive learning environment with limited time out of class due to behavior and attendance2. School operations (facilities, master scheduling, technology, resources) ensures that teachers can teach and leaders can lead3. Build the capacity of teachers to master student culture-related behaviors outlined in GLOBE Definition of Teaching Excellence and Profile of a Graduate4. School-wide equity gaps are closed across all outcomes and sub-groupsKEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Model and support implementation of the school’s vision and goals o Supports HOS in development of school-wide vision and goals and takes an active role in investing and mobilizing teachers to achieve the collective goals of the school; executes the implementation of select school priorities in support of the school-wide vision, specifically in the area of student culture and school operations o With guidance from the Head of School, leads the planning and goal setting for school operations and student culture (behavior systems, implementing Responsive Classroom, closing student behavior equity gaps, etc.) oIntegrates strategic planning priorities into annual plan and priorities2. Model strong staff and student culture and manage school-wide development and behavior management systems _ _Build Culture: o Creates systems for and builds teacher capacity in school-wide student behavior systems, intervention and positive culture systems; leads on-going training and support for implementing Responsive Classroom methodology; systematically reduces time teachers and school spend on reactive student disciplineo Acts as the first Leadership Team contact for student intervention and parent engagement; determines next steps for issues that rise above the teacher/grade level/department chair o Supports teachers in understanding process and roles in student support and intervention and develops systems and structures to ensure that limited time is spent on reactive student discipline o Manages parts of the daily school operations (e.g. arrival/dismissal, lunch/recess, school trips)3. Develops teachers to build the skills necessary to ensure positive classroom cultures, strong classroom routines and systems, positive student relationships and highly engaged learning environments Coaching o Consistently observes and coaches teachers on classroom culture and implementation of Responsive Classroom and SEL practices, providing helpful, high-impact, actionable and bite-sized feedback to teachers on weekly to bi-weekly basis; leads observation debriefs that include modeling, co-planning and explicit practice to support teacher mastery of positive classroom culture-building practicesProfessional Learning Communities o Supports HoS in designing Master Schedule that provides sufficient collaborative time for teachers o Leads well-facilitated professional learning communities where teachers are deepening mastery of positive classroom culture-building practices, analyzing data related to student engagement/behavior and participating in shared planning for upcoming lessons and units; o Design systems to track and monitor classroom and school culture o Develops protocols and Professional Learning Community structures to use data to drive on-going improvements tostudent behavior, reducing reactive student discipline challenges in the classroom and schoolProfessional Learning _ o Leads whole-school or grade-level professional learning workshops that drive improvement in classroom culture; professional learning topics are selected based on classroom observation data, behavior data or school/grade level p riorities4. Collaborate with Head of School on hiring, developing, and retaining diverse, highly-effective teachers and school staff _ Develops talent: o Supports the development and execution of a data-driven a nd performance-based teacher and staff hiring process o S upports new teacher onboarding processes o Ensures high retention rates and engagement of teachers and staff o Supports the Head of School in identifying and developing emerging and teacher leaders (Department Heads,G rade Level Chairs, etc.) through goal setting, coaching and providing feedback5. Manages school operations to ensure school is efficient and maximizes student learning time o Develops and coordinates staff to execute the school’s v ision for operations, staffing, scheduling, testing, and finance according to the school’s goals and priorities o Works with the Head of School to lead and manage t he logistical elements of all major student assessments oEnsures that students and staff have access to needed technology and works with the central team to plan technology-related enhancements o L eads the school opening/startup process each year to ensure that doors are ready to open o Manages systems for and maintains accurate student data and information in compliance with federal, state, district and school expectations o P rovides input into the school-based strategic planning and identifies what the school’s strategic plan means for his/her own leadership and people that he/she manages6.
