Job Description : People directly impacted by the criminal punishment system are encouraged to apply.Position Summary: The Director of Movement Building will be the driving force behind identifying and leading strategies that build the capacity and engagement of people and communities who have been directly impacted by the punishment system. This position will:Develop and implement a movement-building framework within JCA that deepens, coordinates, and advances our advocacy and policy change effortsEnsure that JCA’s movement-building and policy change priorities are aligned and advancing in ways that meet the needs of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and other communities who are most directly impacted by the punishment systemDirect and support other JCA staff in building skills to deepen strategic approaches to relationship building with allies and partnersCultivate new and build on existing relationships with external partners, community leaders, and system stakeholders with an emphasis on building long term values-based relationshipsWork with partner organizations and supporters to effectively engage those most impacted by the punishment system in our policy workSpecific Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Building and coordinating strategic outreach, engagement, and advocacy campaigns to advance JCA’s goals, evaluating the development and outcomes of campaigns (see above)Managing, training, and coordinating Organizers and relevant independent contractorsIdentifying, cultivating, training, and engaging volunteers and emerging leadersCoordinating member participation in JCA events, actions, and mobilizationsRepresenting JCA publicly by speaking and/or writing for public forums, events, trainings, and with the mediaUnderstanding and working to meet grant deliverables, contributing to reports, and assisting in managing budgetsParticipating in organization-wide planning, development, and communications activities, as neededAttending staff meetings, regular meetings with supervisor, and hold regular check in meetings with each staff person under your supervisionPreparing and deliver annual staff evaluationsPerforming administrative activities associated with effective program management, including compiling, storing, and retrieving data for assessments and reports, creating and maintaining project files (both electronic and paper) in a manner easily accessible by all staff membersOther duties as assigned, dependent on organizational needs and employee skillsQualifications: Demonstrated competence and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, anti-racism, anti-misogyny, anti-transphobia, anti-homophobia, anti-ableism, and other forms of anti-oppression, and to a transformative justice approach to accountability and healing in all aspects of the workKnowledge, through work or lived experience, of the criminal punishment system and its impact on individuals, families, and communitiesEducation & Experience:A minimum 5 years’ experience in union organizing, grassroots organizing, electoral or other advocacy campaign development at a very seasoned level; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:Skills: Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and coordinate effective outreach, organizing, and mobilization campaignsKnowledge of training and principles of effective leadership and mentoring.Extensive knowledge of organizing practice, strategies, and tactics.Ability to facilitate dialogue and lead group processes with people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.Ability to lead, train, and coordinate organizing staff, contract employees, and volunteers.Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills.Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including excellent “one-on-one” interpersonal communications.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.Flexibility to adjust and contribute to continually evolving work situation and changing priorities.Good computer skills, proficient with MS Office and Google applications.Bilingual English-Spanish a plus.Must be able to travel locally and statewide.
