Job Description : Womankind uses the multidimensionality of our Asian heritage to work alongside survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) as they build a path to healing. We are working tirelessly to create a future where we Rise Above Violence and our communities can innovate towards collective well-being, restoration, and social justice. In addition to promoting healing and safety through service provision, Womankind promotes gender justice through research, coalition building, policy analysis, and community education and mobilization.The ESL Instructor’s primary responsibilities are to develop lesson plans and curriculum, and facilitate ESL groups for adult English language learners who are survivors of gender-based violence. The instructor will support survivors in building skills that promote moving towards empowerment and self-sufficiency.Essential FunctionsProvide participant-driven and culturally informed ESL classes (in-person and virtual) for 8-10 adult learners per cycleCo-conduct an initial and exit assessment for group participantsDevelop and implement ESL lesson plans, curriculum and instructional materials based on assessed learning needs and initially determined group levelPrepare activities that would promote fun and pleasant learning environmentEngage clients in practicing English in real life scenariosMaintain a record of participant attendance and progressCommunicate with supervisor the successes and challenges following each class session as well as at the end of each cycleParticipate in initial core trainings to gain an overview of GBVQualificationsDeep commitment to Womankind’s missionExperience with anti-violence work or the Asian community and English language learnersTESOL, English certificate preferredExcellent organization skillsHumility and openness in approach to the workFamiliarity with computers, e-mail, and word processingAbility to problem solve and exhibit a positive attitude while dealing with challengesFluency in an Asian Language preferredAbility to be self-directing and highly motivated.Time CommitmentFacilitate two cycles per year (6 weeks/cycle; 2 days/week; 1.5 hours/day)Morning, evening, and /or weekend availability required based on determined group scheduleBi-weekly check ins with supervisorInitial one-time prep of up to 4 hoursCompensation: $70-$80/hour based on experience, skill set, and other criteria.How to ApplyEmail resume and cover letter.
