Position : Student Success Advisor
Job Description : Under the supervision of the Dean of Student Success Advising, the Student Success Advisor will be responsible for providing holistic support and care throughout the student life cycle from prospect to alumni. This includes (but is not limited to) advising regarding degree completion and supporting students with appropriate resources to aid in their success. In addition, the Student Success Advisor is expected to execute on various strategies to assist in student persistence and retention. As a member of the Student Success team, the Student Success Advisor works collaboratively with other members of staff within the Division of Student Success and Engagement and across the Marymount Manhattan community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide exceptional and innovative advising services to prospective and current students, individually or in groups, about degree requirements, course registration, academic policies and procedures.
Deliver various intervention strategies to aid in satisfactory academic progress and student academic recovery.
Participate in the planning and implementation of student success initiatives, workshops, orientations, and other programs.
Apply various student development theories and advising practices to assess readiness and then appropriately challenge and support a cohort of students with diverse assets, needs, backgrounds, and talents to make informed decisions about personal, academic, and in collaboration with Career Services, career goals.
Collaborate with a small team to develop/modify and implement first-year experience curriculum and programming for new students. This may include teaching a first-year experience course.
Conduct exit interviews with students seeking to withdraw permanently from the college.
Maintain and update student records and data, including documentation of student interactions, in relevant institutional systems accurately and in a timely manner.
Prepare customized reports for the Dean, faculty advisors, divisional chairs and other administrators, as needed or requested.
Work collaboratively with the Dean of Student Success Advising, faculty and staff to promote, support and implement the goals of the Office and student enrollment and retention initiatives.
Conduct periodic analysis of Student Success Advisement-related data/processes with the goal of continuously improving the campus experience.
Perform all other functions as assigned by the Dean of Student Success Advising.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in Higher Education or related fields (preferred)
2-3 years of experience in the area of Student Success/Advising
Some teaching or presentation experience preferred
Some experience with program development preferred
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrated experience in Word and Excel
Superb oral and written communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with members of the Student Success Advising team, as well as with faculty, administrators and other staff members
Ability to make balanced judgments and decisions
Ability to work well with individuals from diverse social and economic backgrounds
