Job Description : JOB DESCRIPTIONDirector of Environmental ServicesGeneral Purpose:To assist in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Environment Services Department in accordance with current Federal, State, and Local standards governing the Facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator to ensure a clean, safe, well maintained facility and environment.Qualifications:* Must be able to read, write and speak English language in an understandable manner.* Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, followinstructions, and to accept constructive criticism.* Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.* Must possess leadership ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise non-professional personnel.* Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc. of the Housekeeping Department.* Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.Essential Job Functions (With or Without Reasonable Accommodation):A. Environmental Services Duties: Plan, Develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Environmental Services Department of the Facility; Develop, maintain, and update written maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry policies, procedures, manuals, objectives, and philosophies; ensure that Environmental Service personnel are performing their duties in accordance with written policies, procedures, and manuals; participate in implementing and maintaining a quality assurance program; participate in surveys and inspections by government agencies; interpret the Department’s policies and procedures to personnel, residents, families, visitors, and government agencies as necessary; make reports and recommendations to the Administration concerning operations of the department; and, implement recommendations received from administration, other departments and/or committees as directed.B. Personnel Duties: Recruit, interview, hire, counsel, discipline, and terminate Environmental Service personnel; document and coordinate personnel actions with the Administrator; schedule department work hours including vacation and holiday schedules, personnel, work assignments, etc. to expedite work; delegate administrative authority, responsibility and accountability to other Environmental Service personnel as deemed necessary to perform assigned duties; and, coordinate services to ensure that daily environmental services can be performed without interruption.B. Inventory and Planning Duties: Recommend to the Administrator the equipment and supply needs of the Department; assist in the order and purchase of equipment and supplies as necessary; assist in developing and monitoring adequate and cost effective inventory control procedures; make regular inspections of supplies and equipment to ensure that adequate levels are maintained and that equipment is available and working properly; forecast needs of the Department and assist in preparing and planning the Environmental Services Department’s budget for equipment, supplies, and labor and submit them to the Administrator for review.C. Residents’ RightsMaintain resident confidentiality; treat residents with kindness, dignity, and respect; know and comply with Residents’ Rights rules; monitor services to ensure that residents’ needs are met; ensure that all Environmental Service personnel are knowledgeable concerning residents’ environmental needs; and, review, promptly report to the Administrator, and maintain written records of all resident complaints and grievances.Other job Duties (With or Without Reasonable Accommodation): A. Safety and Sanitation Duties: Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining safety standards, written aseptic and isolation techniques, and procedures for reporting hazardous conditions or equipment; ensure that Environmental Services personnel follow established infection control procedures when isolation precautions become necessary; ensure that Environmental Services personnel understand and follow Universal Precautions, established safety rules, fire and disaster procedures and departmental policies and procedures.B. Staff Development Duties: Attend, direct, and participate in orientation, training, and in-service educational activities.C. Administrative Duties: Attend and participate in various committees and meetings of the Facility; evaluate and implement recommendations pertaining to Environmental Services; meet with Environmental Services personnel on a regularly scheduled basis and solicit advice from inter-department supervisors and resident concerning the operation of the Environmental Services Department; ensure that quality control measures are continually maintained; and, make sure that appropriate protective clothing and devices are available for handling soiled laundry, infectious waste and/or blood and body fluids.D.
