Job Description : JOB TITLE: Surgery SchedulerLOCATION: MontebelloDEPARTMENT: ClinicREPORT TO: Surgery Scheduler SupervisorFLSA STATUS: Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Hourly*MISSION: *To enhance the quality of our patients’ lives by compassionately providing the highest level of careVISION: To be recognized as the eye care center of excellence in the communities we serve*SUMMARY*The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for scheduling ophthalmic surgeries at ambulatory surgery centers and local hospitals. Serves as liaison between patient and surgeon, facility, clinical staff, and surgery center/hospital staff.JOB RESPONSIBILITIESCoordinates and maintains surgical schedule for surgeonsInteracts with patients, physicians, and other staff both within the Clinic and at outside facilities providing accurate and timely informationSchedules pre-op testing and appointmentsSchedules post-op visitsCommunicates with patients about:SchedulingPre-Op and post-op testing and visitsInsurance requirementsSurgical consentsCardiac clearance requirements (when applicable)Facility ownership disclosureTransportation requirementsEstimated patient financial responsibilityFinancial hardship assistanceContacts surgical facilities for schedulingEnsures that necessary insurance eligibility and pre-authorizations are received in a timely manner prior to surgery.For patients with no insurance or high patient responsibility, refers patient to the RMEC Patient Financial CounselorCoordinate processes and routes all paperwork as required to meet physician, clinic, and surgery center/hospital requirementsAlong with the physicians, develop and maintain process protocolsMaintains patient confidentialityAttends required meetingsConsistently schedules surgery days to the mutual satisfaction of the patient, the surgeon, and the facility staffCommunicates with the patients in a manner that instills understanding and confidence about their upcoming procedureHas a working understanding of ophthalmic testing including but not limited to A-Scans, IOL Calculations, photos, visual field testingUnderstands characteristics of common anterior segment and oculoplastic disordersUnderstands and communicates well with patients about ophthalmic surgeries, lasers, and oculoplastic proceduresUnderstands and follows procedures for surgical and procedural consentsUnderstands contracted insurance plans and proceduresIs energetic and empathetic with patientsCooperates with supervisory staff and physiciansDemonstrates initiative in accomplishing practice goalsDuties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.PERFORMANCE STANDARDSContributes to the effective and efficient performance of the department for the practiceFunctions as a productive and positive member of the practiceConforms to all RMEC policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook including punctuality, attendance, and dress codesAchieves cooperation and teamwork through effective communications and positive relations with staffAdheres to the company code of conduct*WORK QUALITIES*Position requires excellent communication skills and an understanding of ophthalmic practice and patient care. Must demonstrate attention to detail and documentation. Must be even tempered, ethical, and good humored.
