Job Description : OverviewPerforms responsible communications and engagement activities to facilitate access to programs and services provided by Larimer County Department of Health and Environment. Assists in the development and implementation of strategies to promote department activities and inform the community through the press, including an emphasis on social media, and website. Conducts community presentations and events. Conducts community assessments, internal communication campaigns, and data analysis when necessary. Supports departmental technology systems and applications.ResponsibilitiesSpecifically, this position:Develops, implements, and coordinates internal and external communication plans and strategies.Prepares content for and/or designs E-newsletters, brochures, signage, and various outreach materials.Develops, manages and analyzes web and social media content and interaction in conformance with all communication guidelines and brand standards.Assists and provides information to the media including press releases, and may coordinate news conferences, radio, television, and print interviews as directed.Coordinates, prepares and/or presents materials for presentation to schools, civic groups, professional associations, community events and other interested parties about Larimer County programs and services.Facilitates and participates in outreach events and activities; represents the County/Department.Maintains effective working relationships with members of the news media and communication representatives from other agencies.Establishes and maintains open communication with departments and elected offices and their designated communications staff.Provides hardware and software support to staff within the department.To view the full job description, visit https://www.larimer.org/hr/careers/job-descriptions#/app/detail/Communications_Specialist.We are looking for a candidate that will:Use routine software and business application including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and databases.Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.Demonstrate excellent writing skills for promotional-type opportunities such as grant applications, award nominations, educational brochures, rack cards and other public information collateral.Demonstrate organization of various news media and the practical need of media representatives for information, when assigned or asked.Have experience with website content, social media, basic photography and basic video production.Use graphic standards and design, video production and editing software packages including Adobe InDesign and Premiere Elements.Act as an official representative of the County in a professional manner with local, state, and national agencies and organizations as assigned.Fluency in Spanish is preferred.QualificationsAll candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.Two (2) years’ experience in a position that requires communicating and engaging with the public, preferably in a public sector agency required.Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Communication, Journalism, or a related field required.
