Position : Estimator – Heavy/Civil
Job Description : We are looking for a diligent Estimator to prepare accurate estimates for projects by gathering information and analyzing important metrics. You will provide knowledge of cost and benefits that support profitable business decisions. The ideal candidate will have excellent numerical skills and an analytical mindset. You must be thorough and apt in managing relationships with key persons. The goal is to provide detailed estimates so the company can make informed decisions that will enhance its profitability and growth.ResponsibilitiesUnderstand heavy/civil projects, their requirements and componentsDetermine key variables (quantity take-offs, labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, project specifications) in preparation of the estimateGather first-hand information from sites and field personnelConduct research to obtain data on labor costs, materials, production times etc.Obtain and review offers and quotes by subcontractors or vendorsIdentify risksCreate and submit estimate reports or bids to company owners and clients upon approvalsBuild relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, engineers etc.)Provide consultation on planning (schedules, manpower needs etc.)SkillsProven experience as estimator or similar positionIn depth knowledge of civil engineering plans and project work itemsExquisite math and IT ability with an analytical mindsetProficient in relevant software (B2W, Insight)Communication and negotiation abilitiesThoroughness and reliabilityExcellent organizational skillsFamiliarity with financial and project management principlesBS/BA in engineering, construction management, construction science, or relevant disciplineCompany StatementCushnie Construction Company, Inc. is a locally owned and operated business on the island of Kauai, where Laura and Ralph Cushnie have over 60 years of combined experience in heavy/civil construction.
