Job Description : 2022 LEARN Early Childhood Literacy Support Assistant
The Early Childhood Literacy Tutor will works with groups of children on early literacy skills and strategies. This could include reading aloud to small groups of children, working one-on-one with a child on specific pre-reading, writing or language skills, and/or creating learning activities focused on literacy or communication skills. The Liter-acy Tutor will plan, prepare, advertise and orchestrate family literacy nights for the center and other Tribal pro-grams. The Literacy tutor will act as a liaison between teachers and families specifically to incorporate literacy activities and strategies for working with children that can be done at home and in the center. Training and mentoring support will take place during the first month of service.
Member Duties : • Work with Center Director or host teacher to develop weekly learning activities for specific students and groups of children. • Complete all reports and documentation, including bi-weekly time-sheets and family information logs for each student. • Plan, prepare and implement story time activities. • Develop and implement family literacy nights. • Complete documentation required for statistical analysis required by AmeriCorps program. • The literacy tutor will plan, prepare, and distribute literacy focused newsletters to families. • Work within each classroom of the child care center to develop relationships with children and determine their developmental needs. • Collaborate with other AmeriCorps Service and Head Start members in planning for family activity nights.
